#80 Blizzard Hurricane Oil Lamp Burning Lantern Blue

The Dietz No.80 Blizzard Lantern is great for lighting areas with a good light, I was well pleased with the purchase. It works quite well for a stationary light as it is quite large,the tall globe and wide flame really makes a good light. I prefer the Dietz D-Lite and Air Pilot and Little wizard for carrying lights as The Dietz 80 works so well that the light tends to blind you unless you carry down at your side. The short globe of the D lite,Air pilot and little wizard tends to shade your face from the brightness while carrying a lantern. The Dietz No. 80 is however a really good investment against darkness,power outages from storms and used while camping. It is i guess the brightest wick lantern made,even surpassing the D Lite and Air pilot with a much larger flame. You will be pleased with the Dietz No. 80, trying to find a brighter lantern would put you in the propane lantern or pump up type lanterns,however my personal experience taught me during storms,disasters and other calamities,the stores will be emptied of batteries, Coleman fuel,mantles and propane bottles the first day of the power outage. The Dietz Lanterns with a gallon or two of kerosene will take care of the situation without worrying about batteries going dead,or Coleman Fuel getting old or the lack of propane cylinders. If you take care of it it will last a lifetime,buy a few spare wicks put them away and set back and be comfortable. Cortes is a A one company to deal with and I have bought several lanterns from them without worry.

Overall I'm pleasantly surprised by this lantern. I had hopes that the metal would be a heavier gauge but...its 2026 and nothing is made like something from 1900. Straight out of the box the lantern didn't leak and lit and made light. Definitely a better choice than other el cheapo Chinese made lanterns. Would recommend if you need a usable item.

Very pretty robins egg blue metallic color. LOL. It is lightweight, with an extra wide base that doesn't wobble. It would take more than a nudge to tip it over. The loop at the top is attached securely so I won't worry so much when it is hung up. Nice tall area for the flame. This should produce some heat as well as light in those emergent situations. Update: Having recently experienced a power outage when temps were near freezing I can say that using 2 put out enough heat to keep my bedroom tolerable for several hours. I use the kerosene that is labeled as odorless but there is a slight odor. It makes a bright flame but it is the heat that I needed most. I now use it in the evening to get the chill out of the air when I am getting into bed and near my shower so its toasty when I get out. I didn't plan on using it this way but it is a better option than my electric heater which costs a small fortune to operate. This is a real bargain. The quality is excellent and it couldn't be easier to use and to clean. I highly recommend it for more than just emergency light. It is a cheap alternative to using electric heaters in targeted areas of the home.

Last year we experienced a windstorm that knocked out power for 3 weeks that left me aware of how unprepared I was. I bought this lantern as a replacement for my current light source which was just candles. Let me start off by stating that this thing is bright! I was surprised how much light it produces even when set low. With a medium size flame you can easily read by it. Not as bright as the pressured gas lanterns that use a filament but it is a lot brighter than candles. It is light weight but feels well made, probably not as sturdy as the originals but it feels sturdy. Make sure you do not overfill it because a lot of people report leaking. I filled it about half way and only when I turned it almost all the way over did it leak. Overall I am happy with this purchase. It is sturdy, bright, holds a lot of fuel, and looks great. With the right oil and care I think it will last a long time.

I ordered some other small decorative lanterns and they didn't work at all. Returned. I ordered this lantern and hoped for the best. I followed instructions for trimming the wick and for giving enough time for the fuel to migrate into the wick. I lit it. It just works. No problems at all. Yesterday, I turned the wick down to shut it off but apparently didn't quite go far enough. When I looked at it today, there was still a flame but it was just a tiny dot. I turned the wick up and it was back to normal. I love this thing.

I love my lamps, they work fine and very sturdy. I drop one from the ceiling and the glass inside the lamp didn’t even brake!!!

Really great storm lamp, it's big and puts out a lot of light. The design makes it a breeze to open the lamp for lighting. There were no dents in my lamp when it arrived, so no issues at all with leakage. There is some (surface) rust, however on the unfinished lamp I think it looks nice in a rustic way and it doesn't affect the performance of the lamp. Probably wouldn't want to have it out in the rain, and I'll be using mine indoors or undercover at least so I don't see the rust becoming an issue. It's a pricey lamp, but I would say worth the money. If you just wanted one really good storm lamp this would be it. There is some smell when using the lamp, but with a little ventilation this isn't a problem and it's never enough to be overpowering (just adjust the flame to your liking, smaller flame means less smell.) All in all probably the best storm lantern. If rust is a concern maybe get a painted version instead of an unfinished one.
