So, this device will use data for traffic updates, when in use?

don't believe it--if you check online forums there is a problem that they know about and are unwilling to fix--I had a 5 hour drive yesterday and no traffic reports ever even though it shows that my phone was connected to the device they discontinued phone support and their only response was to do a factory reset-and that did not fix it--they clearly want you to use Waze

Does this device allow you to track your vehicle location remotely and in real-time?

It is a GPS not a tracking device.

Does this unit have a sdcard slot?

It looks like a micro sd slot. I couldn’t find information in the user guide, but looking at it, it appears to be a micro sd slot. I hope this helps! Good luck and happy travels.
