Cheaper than using batteries
This was a good investment. The cost of 4 D batteries is slightly less, so the adapter essentially pays for itself in 6 months.

Definitely get this if you own an auto trash can
This makes life so much more convenient. It's just one less thing to worry about with your trashcan. Using this I don't have to deal with the trash can lid being slow and weak from low battery. It may even prolong the life of the lid mechanish because the lid won't be operating slowly.This adapter really should be included with the trash can but that should be a minus point for the trash can and not for the adapter.

the ac adaptor does not work buyer beware
its not only cheap plastic but it does not work. I tried three jacks all around my house and it does not power anything on the trash can. in fact after plugging it in the little red light that used to come on when I open the lid manually no longer comes on at all. Its possible the trash can is also defective. but as I can open it manually and it fits perfectly in the space Ill keep the can. I believe the reason the ac adapter and the trash can are sold separately IS because the ac adapters ARE more often defective. if they put defective plugs in with the can you would return them both. and I also believe the cans may be defective because other people have left reviews saying the same. so buyer beware. Im keeping my can, but if I were you, Id think twice about this adapter and the can IF hands free is more important to you than its smaller kitchen footprint.
