effective sleeping aid

I was awake all night
I took the magnesium about 5 PM because I wanted to have a good sleep but when I went to bed, I couldn’t sleep most of the night. I had restless leg syndrome and tossed & turned until 3 AM. I finally went to sleep about 3 AM. I read that melatonin can cause restless legs and it did. I also read the melatonin can cause alertness and it did. I won’t take them anymore.
