Perfect for anyone who wants to LEARN vocabulary instead of just memorizing it.
The thing about vocabulary is, even if you know how to USE a word properly, you may not actually know the true definition. For example, the word 'terrific' is often used to describe something fantastic. It's true definition is something that causes terror, which is similar to the way it sounds and is spelled. Even though that should be obvious, we're so used to looking at it in a different way that we become biased. This is a huge problem for anyone taking the vocabulary section of the SAT, ASVAB, and other exams. We'll look for the option of a word that seems the most familiar to us, and end up getting that question incorrect, because our natural bias tricked us.This book is full of words that you will and won't recognize. It's a good thing, trust me. The words you don't recognize should be seen as the ones that will be the main part of vocabulary questions. The words you DO recognize will most likely be words in the answer section. Keep in mind that even if you think some of the words you see are 'too easy,' words can have many definitions depending on whether they're being used as a noun, an adjective, etc.The learning format of this workbook isn't complicated. Unlike vocabulary books that you may have used in grade school, this workbook won't extend the lesson for each set of vocabulary past one page. Also, this workbook is already written out in a schedule format that you can take advantage of. There are 5 words for each day (each day has it's own page dedicated to it), and after finishing one week (the 'weeks' in this book at only 4 days long), you will have a miniature test/review of all the words you learned that week. It's a very simple, yet effective format. If you really want to learn as much as you can from this book, I recommend using Google to look up definitions of the words in the small word box they give you for each day. This book won't give you the definitions. It wants you to actually learn them on your own instead of treating you like a child who can't do anything for themselves. You're a grown person whose brain is like the internet: it has endless amounts of information, and there is always room for more. I personally like to log my words on Vocabulary.com (no, I'm not sponsored or anything, I'm just a huge nerd). I was going to use Quizlet, but Vocabulary.com let's me be lazier because it already has the definitions so I don't have to type them in. Either way, try to find a site like these, because they have options for you to quiz yourself on the vocabulary and to review. Now for the timeline. How long will it take you to finish this book? Technically 220 days if you only do one page a day. I personally am using this book to help me study for ASVABs (and also because I love learning), so I made a schedule to cut my learning to only 2 months. I'm doing 7 weeks of this book every single day. It honestly doesn't take that much time. Plus, when I'm finished, I feel like I actually did something productive with my life.I hope this review will help anyone who is deciding on which vocabulary book is good for them. :) Just know what you're getting into so that you don't waste your money trying to find out.

Very Helpful Book
I have purchased this book to improve my english vocabulary. I am really happy with the way, my Vocabulary is progressing. It has week by week words to learn and practice with the help of easy and fun exercises. Once you learn a new word, you must use it in your day today work, else you will forget the new words. I recommend this book to all the students who has average vocabulary and want to appear in GRE other such exams. Very Helpful book.

Lessons every day.
Overall, it is a good book for middle and high school students as well as non-native English speakers. There is not enough material to fully prepare students for the exams/tests, but it will certainly improve the vocabulary and teach some expressions Here are the pros and cons of the book.Pros:- I liked the structure of the book. The lessons are divided by weeks and days. So, if a student is determined to study every day, the books will support his/her goal.- The new words are great. The authors actually focus on teaching the words that are not widely used. Here are some examples: "benevolent", "tenacious", "viable", "introspective", "omnivorous", "saturate", "complicity", etc.- There are sample sentences with blank spaces, where a learner is offered to place the new words.- Every lesson also has a section called "Todays' Idiom" with an explanation and a sample sentence. Here are some idioms used in the book: "to play possum", "on the spur of the moment", "to spill the beans", "like Caesar's wife", "to take by storm", "by hook or by crook", "Achilles heel", etc. As you can imagine, with 46 weeks of study (5 lessons in each), there are a lot of idioms!- There is a summary exercise at the end of each week. All answers are provided at the end of the book.Cons:- I was surprised that there are no definitions provided. They just throw words at you - go figure what does "alleviate" or "vindicate" mean. The spelling is there, but no definitions. I assume that it's easier to use a Kindle version of the book, where you can highlight a word and using the Internet, read the actual meaning of it. On the other hand, exercises are probably better in the printed version of the book - you can write the answers in the spaces provided. For non-native English speakers: This is not the only books that you will need to improve your English language skills. You may also want to check out these books on Amazon: "McGraw-Hill Handbook of English Grammar and Usage", "Everybody writes" by Ann Handley, "How to say it" by Maggie Rosalio, "Barron's Dictionary of American Idioms", "American Accent Training" by Ann Cook, "The blue book of grammar and punctuation", and "English the American Way: A Fun ESL Guide".

I wish I knew about this book while studying for the SAT...
1100 Words You Need to Know is a great book because you get better at seeing how a definition applies in sentences so you can master the definitions in each lesson. The book does a great job of indicating in future lessons when a word is a word you came across in an earlier lesson. The book is perfect for those learners who do not want to strictly rely on rote memory in order to learn and understand a definition.

I really enjoy this workbook
I really enjoy this workbook. I have a decent vocabulary and love to read, but I just wanted something that was interactive to brush up on some words that I've forgotten since being out of school. I love that it makes you think about what the words mean through context and has a fill-in-the-blank and a matching section for each day. It also reviews the words that you've already covered from previous days. I already know most of the words but there's usually one or two each day that are a bit more challenging to me. Each page only takes a few minutes to complete.
