No upscaling but nice, crisp output
This is the 3rd of these Kaico HDMI adapters I've bought. I also have the Dreamcast and OG Xbox versions. They all work really well and are of good sound construction for the price and are a convenient way to output your old consoles on modern TVs. Each of the Kaico adapters works slightly differently and offers different output signal options. I find this reassuring as it's obvious thatthey have spent the time to find the best possible way of outputting/converting the video signal from each console they make a cable for (rather than just repackaging the same low quality HDMI converter for each console as other brands do) One thing to note is that this cable does not upscale the image of your PS2. It mearly lets you choose from the already available output options and converts that to a clean HDMI output. So with the PS2 you are limited to RGB/Component (480p / 576i). I leave mine on component setting and it seems to work fine. The picture is in no way 'HD' by today's standards, but it's much cleaner and crisper than my previous method which was a RGB SCART cable and a billion times better than the standard 'red white yellow' composite AV cables that came supplied with most PS2s. You'll probably notice some fuzziness to text etc and cut scenes will generally be of low video quality anyway, but importantly actual game graphics are pretty damn good. Not quite to standard of my now sadly dead backwards compatible fat PS3, but good enough. (It should be noted that I keep a 720p screen to play my older consoles on, so it's possible it may not look as pretty on a 1080p or 4k screen.) *Edit* A downfall I have found is that, you can't play PS1 games on your PS2 through this cable. I guess without upscaling the output is just too 'none standard' for HDMI? Who knows. Luckily I have a PS3 Slim which does play PS1 games, bit worth noting if you have original Playstation games you wanted to dust off and play on your PS2.

Love it and thoroughly thrilled with my purchase
Got this HDMI converter to specifically use to play my PS2 Slim with and straight away, it worked an absolute treat and was super easy to set up. The image quality is okay considering it is a 25 year old console and is a little pixelly in some places, but apart from that, it does do it’s job of bringing the PS2 back to life on my 4KHD TV! Couldn’t recommend this product enough if you are looking to get yourself a PS2 and build up a retro gaming collection like I am doing. Look no further 😊

Still good, but new revision is a downgrade.
Does what it advertises, and the quality is good. But I've noticed that this doesn't auto switch between interlaced and progressive mode. It just stays on 1080p. And I had the older one three years ago, and I have to say, I feel that it was better. Whatever was used back then made the interlaced picture a lot better, as it properly used 576i for my PAL PlayStation 2 and the games, as well as 480i 60hz for PAL60 games, and 480p for progressive scan. This just outputs 1080p across the board for the two component modes, and I feel that this newer revision is a downgrade. The interlacing is far more noticeable than before, and although it doesn't make the games unplayable, it's rather annoying. And for a very niche use case, DVD movies are LITERALLY unwatchable with this. The older HDMI adapter could do this easily. And one more thing, the brightness and contrast is way off, and that's not my game settings or my TV. This new revision has messed with the brightness and contrast settings that we cannot readjust. Please address this as soon as possible. I would have rated it 5/5 if it was the same model, but alas, it is not. Shame. Still a decent no-nonsense adapter.

1080 p switch between rgb and component ypbpr
games like the suffering ,hitman contracts, splinter cell chaos theory, jak 2 and 3.cold winter, they are clean clear defined and bright.they look so much better and seem like hd. even though the source picture is still standard ps2 to 1080. no change to the background graphics. The way i look at it is, u wanna play ps2 games because of the difference the kaico hdmi adapter makes for ps2 games.IT puts a smile on your face by reliving your younger years.i have 3 tvs at home none of them were as clean defined as ps2 was on my monitor. so it shone on my dell led 2560x1440 monitor.the difference was there than my older tvs.are 4k lg led 2016 tv picture dark and not cleaned up no good.the sony bravia 1080 p led tv there was know obvious change improvement in picture no way cleaned up.same with samsung 2021 neo qled tv 4k .picture wasnt good enough.so on my newer dell monitor ps2 games were like new they shone through.it probably needs to be on newer tvs for it do its magic.anyway i am happy with my purchase .i give it 5 stars.

It Works!!!
I have to admit that I was very sceptical about this. I’ve bought similar before, albeit a lot cheaper, so I thought;well you get what you pay for so I decided to stop wasting money on cheap stuff and invest a bit more. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Just follow the clear instructions and you’ll be enjoying those PS2 games in no time. You will need a HDMI cable to connect the adapter to your TV but most people probably have a draw full of them. This works perfectly on my 1080p TV but I don’t know if it’s compatible with 4k etc. It’s great to see those old games fired up again. There’s no way to upscale (obviously) but the image quality is amazing. Stop wasting your time and money on those cheap adapters and just buy this. You won’t be disappointed.

Easy fix
Decided to try this HDMI adapter for the PS2 as my TV does not have the composite connections which was my preferred option. The adapter works well but not perfect the picture is not as clear as I remember but I think that is just old technology meets new but still enjoying the experience of making my way through GT3 and GT4 again after many years away. Bottom line I would recommend this product.

Does the job - with a few notes
Works well, came well packed and has good instructions. As with most of these, it works as a solid, quick setup bit of kit. If you're looking for the best image, this won't quite get there. It's great to have a quick blast on the ps2 with, and works as an illustration of where to go next if you want to have a better image. Works well with the games I've tested, but there's no de-interlacing built in, again it never states this as a feature, but shows what you need to improve if you want to go further. Image is also darker than original cables would be, same with most of these adapters - keep in mind. Overall - solid, well built and does the job, but don't expect miracles.

Works great
I already own the Kaico PS2 HDMI adapter, but wanted to play my PS1 games also. The image quality between the two looks the same to me, and is fine if you just want to plug and play. As others have mentioned, the output defaults to 16:9 widescreen, stretching the image of (almost all) games that only support 4:3 format. Depending on your TV you can fix this by forcing your TV to display a 4:3 ratio in your TV settings. This PS1/PS2 adapter also plugs in easier into the PS2 compared to the Kaico PS2 HDMI adapter, because of the adapter having a cable.
