More parts needed
I needed to replace a 40yr old gravity feed unit in a rental, and this unit seemed perfect, but the installation instructions are a bit vague - and the online videos do not go into detail. Ended up having to buy a vent kit, since this unit requires a 2x6 square-to-round adaptor. Then it did not work with a simple Honeywell heat-only thermostat, and so I ended up buying the $30 Williams one. The unit was $900, the installation and additional parts added about $600, and I am still having problems because it requires a vertical vent stack - horizontal requires a vent fan to pump up the flow, or the unit overheats. More aggravation than I was expecting.

nice looking, instructions are pretty good
It went in with no problems. but it had a minor problem, the gas line for the igniter had a hair crack in it, I gas the company a call and the parts is on the way. other then that , I think we are just about ready, nice looking, instructions are pretty good, I had installed these units before. easy enough for just about anyone.wsw

Excellent basic wall furnace - no electricity required, 2 wire thermostat.
We have had the high altitude propane version of this at our off-grid weekend cabin for about two months now and are very happy with it. Williams makes both natural gas and propane versions (this listing is the natural gas/below 2000' elevation model) in 2000' foot ranges up to 8,000' of elevation. We had to special order our 8000' propane model from the local H.D., but you can buy conversion and adapter kits to change this to any of the other models. We replaced a 17 year old Dayton wall furnace of similar design and size - but this model has a millivolt gas valve and so can use an external wired or wireless thermostat - big improvement. Here is some more info that might be helpful -- It does not have a concentric vent, but takes combustion air from the room. If you have a small or airtight room, you should put a small grate in a hole in the floor below the unit so it can draw combustion air from a crawl space or other source. They include specs in the installation guide.- It does not come with a fan/blower, but that is an option you can add: Williams Blower Accessory for Monterey Top-Vent Furnaces . In our case we only have 12VDC power so wanted something that did not require electricity and this was perfect - the blower requires 110VAC. But the blower is entirely optional and doesn't change the BTUs you are putting into the space.- You light the pilot the same way you light a gas fireplace - hold down the gas valve while pushing a sparker button. No matches needed.- The gas valve is on the left, so you need to bring the gas line up through the floor on the right. The gas connection is a 1/2" NPT female so you need a male 1/2" NPT gas line. Not all 1/2" threads are the same - make sure you get NPT, not flare/compression. This needs household gas pressure - 11" W.C.- It does not include an oval to round vent adapter - you have to buy that separately. The vent should be 4".- It includes a very basic 2 wire mercury bulb thermostat that was hard to precisely set. So I replace it with Honeywell TH1100DV1000 Pro-Digital 2-Wire Heat Only which works great. This unit comes with maybe 10-12' of thermostat wire which wasn't enough for our setup so I had to buy wire separately.- It is white in color, but a very soft muted white that isn't jarring - we were a little worried about that.- It is quiet but not silent - you can hear it when running - that is probably a good thing.

Worried about how hot it gets
The wall above the furnace gets hot, but not too hot to touch. The top of the furnace itself gets too hot to touch, and I am worried about it starting a fire.I think I have the 25,000 BTU model.

Very noisy
The worst heater ever!It is very noisy and even when it is off is making weird noises.this hearted is very fastidious. The quality is very poor.this technology is poor.

Can’t recommend
This makes more noise than heat. Most heat gots up the flu. Quit working after one season. Not worth fixing.
