Sumptuous and Surprising
Many Americans are somewhat familiar with the Japanese style of decor and architectural design from restaurants, "Zen" commercial goods, and samurai movies. In contrast, Korea is fairly unknown, which is surprising since the United States has had a large military presence since 1952. As a visitor to Korea and student of Korean Buddhism, I am delighted in obtaining this grandly illustrated book on contemporary Korean architectural design. This book helps fill a large gap in appreciating the culture of Korea, which looks to China and to Japan but is its own, unique creation. The only text, other than captions, are the brief introductions to the book and to each chapter or building. Images are of small and large homes and institutions, landscapes, decorative accessories, all contemporary and also traditional in approach. The Korean style has, for the most part, clean thick and strong lines and simple ornamentation; but rather than being Stoic stark, rooms have a welcoming warmth. Each of the 224 pages offers new insights and perhaps inspiration.

Not so much character or spirit. A bit disappointing.
Interesting. To determine something is beautiful or magnificent should be in the appreciation of the reader, not the writer. This is a book to convey an idea, and how that idea is circulating in the architects mind in Korea. I find it repetitive and common place. Extreme use and abuse of concrete. Did not enjoy this book as much as I expected.

This book is so inviting
I love this book, and have used it for my first home. Being Korean, it helped me to understand where the designs originated and different styles I could incorporate into my home. Now, if the US could just get the under-the-floor heating...

Shows beautiful fusion between tradition and modern
Fast shipping and an item in almost new condition. The book is about modern living in modern architecture in Korea.Actually I wished to learn more about Hanok, but this book is also very interesting and fascinating, showing a beautiful fusion between tradition and present, east and west, warm wood and industrial cement, western height of living and eastern earth-nearness.For me personally, itโs especially interesting to see the difference between Japan and Korea, how those assignments come out. This book shows nice examples in beautiful photographs.
