When I connect using the switch box I lose the split screen function between the monitor and laptop. Is this how it is meant to work?

Pls help to check if you misplug the vga cable with usb pigtail. pls plug the vga cable with usb pigtail to your laptop, another head plug kvm box. By the way, this 2 port VGA KVM Switch allows you to share 2 computers with 1 set of mornitor, keyboard, mouse and printer/u-disk. You can switch vedio signal from PC1/2 to VGA out .

It recognizes both computers, but there is no display from the notebook. The notebook is connected to a docking unit. Any idea why this is so?

Pls note that the notebook only can use as input device, not output device. You must connect to external monitor.

How do i fix resolution for mac mini? my pc resolution is correct but my mac mini is stretched. resolution is correct without switch.

Devices generally look at the display that is on the VGA connection and try to set the resolution/aspect ratio accordingly. If nothing is connected at start up, the device cannot do that and it depends on what was historically there. You might try connecting to the MAC and cycling the MAC's power for it to re-learn about the display. I am not a MAC user so I do not know how to manually tell the MAC what resolution to use. On a PC you right click on a blank area of the screen and select Display Settings. You may have to try different settings to get one both the PC and MAC can tolerate. Probably not optimal for either, but lowest common denominator.
