.com Michael Hurley is all about perspective. One moment he searches for life's deepest meanings; the next he sings the praises of dinner. He leaves it to the listener to decide which is more important. Hurley couches his odd lyrical mix of the metaphysical and the mundane in the simplest of song forms--gentle melodies abetted by the soft strains of fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and steel guitar. The music borrows from blues, country, swing, and ragtime, and Hurley presents them delicately but passionately and with haphazard perfection on this 1980 recording. --Marc Greilsamer

Off Kilter Folk Rock
Now don't let the term 'folk rock' throw you away from this. Michael Hurley is awesome, but he's songs do tend to range from cool guy smooth (Midnight Rounder) to funny and weird (Pork Chop). But if you've heard any of his stuff (which has been featured in Deadwood) then you'll love this. I enjoy it a lot and am completely satisfied. It's a good listen.

Wonderful and goofy
Wonderful and goofy. It grows on you! Bought for the favorite O My Stars! Nobody writes like he does!

Funny and strange, pure Snock
A little lighter, a little sweeter than "Long Journey," which was also recorded in the mid-70s. A cheerful Snock/Hurley tells tales from a universe that's funnier than ours and has more going on in it. Buy it: you won't regret it. Heck. Get 'em all. Life is short. Heck.

Amazing record!
This is one of the best acid alternative folk rock albums ever. It was already one of the best, but the incredible bonus tracks (including "grapefruit blues"!) put it over the top.

His Best
The finest of Hurley's wonderful catalogue. Listen no further than the second track; O My Stars is one of his greatest songs, marked by a soft melancholy, and this recording has Jill Gross adding the most gentle yet chilling harmonies. What else can one say about a man who heard the voice of a pork chop except that the sleeve almost beggers belief? There are two bonus tracks here, outtakes from the 'Have Moicy!' sessions. You'll wonder how 'Grapefruit Juice Blues' got passed over the first time around.Contrary to what is said above, Michael Hurley's entire catalogue is easily available.
