Thule Force Cargo Box, Black

I bought this item (in XL) a year ago in April. I don't use it that much as I bought it mainly to transport to kids to college and back. Each time that I have used it it has leaked if there has been rain. The last time I used it there was standing water in it when I arrived at my son's college. I had a roll of paper towel in the car and tried to soak up the water, but after going through over half the roll and still having water in the bottom I realized that I would not be able to use the carrier anyway because there was rain forecast for the drive home. Anything I put in it would be soaked by the time I got home. Let me tell you that before buying this item I had a cheap collapsible carrier. It NEVER leaked.I contacted Thule. They told me and I quote "Please understand, these boxes are weather resistance, not water proof. If you drive through a pretty good rainstorm, you're most likely going to have some water get into the box." Unbelievable! Apparently you can assume that you will have water in your carrier if it rains. Given the distance I travel to take each child to school, it would be the exception if I didn't hit a rain storm or two at some point. I asked for a refund and Thule denied the request.Do not buy this product unless you can put things in the carrier that you don't mind getting wet. I would also like to add that the first person I spoke with at customer service for Thule told, if our products leaked at all we would be out of business. He told me that Thule would replace the carrier after I filled out a warranty form. Apparently, there is confusion at Thule as to whether it is acceptable for their carriers to leak.

This was awesome for our family trip! It holds a lot of the bulky items. We pack in duffle bags, and that worked well. I mount it on the factory rails and crossbars in the front and center position. It clears the fully open back hatch door, and does not hang over the windshield. And when it's not on our 2014 Chrysler T&C, it hangs on the wall in the garage on a home-made Schedule 80 PVC rack.

We've had this cargo box for 6 months now. We bought it for holding our boot bags and skiis when we went over the pass, and for the size it was great. With two sets of adult skiis and two sets of kids skiis with four boot bags it was such a space saver inside our Armada. That is where the positive feedback ends. We live in the Pacific Northwest, where it basically rains non stop.....and the previous reviews that said it leaked are true. The front looks like it's closed, but when you're driving down the road you can see where it separates and the water gets in. Secondly, the front hinge broke on the side for when it's opened up on the drivers side of the car. It seems to open still on the passenger side, but when you're driving by yourself with two kids and it's pouring down rain it's pretty inconvenient to have to run around to the other side of the car to climb up on the wheel to load it. And for the price of it it should be made better. Pretty disappointed. We are big fans of Thule. We have several other pieces of their cargo supplies, but this is not one that I would recommend to anyone.

I am one of those people who do not write reviews but after purchasing this piece of equipment, I felt a review was warranted. I was originally undecided on purchasing the XXL or the XL for my 2014 Toyota Highlander. After doing some research, I figured that the XXL would be too big and extend too far over my front windshield and my rear antennae. So I purchased the XL for a christmas holiday road trip from the east coast to the midwest and mid south. The Force was absolutely amazing. It arrived exactly as stated and the people It held a lot of gear in it to the point where I overloaded it and it was quite difficult to shut the lid and it wouldn't lock unless I had a another person helping me to push the lid down. Once I got it down, it locked with no problem. Apparently the carrier has some weight limit to it but I definitely went over whatever limit there is suppose to be. Not that I condone doing so with this review but I had no choice and when I did go over it, I had no issues. So even after overstuffing it, the carrier handled brilliantly through all sorts of weather and issues. It rained and snowed probably 75 percent of the time and I did not have a single drop of water inside the carrier. I was traveling around 75-80 mph the entire trip and I forgot it was up there most of the time. The difference in mph was not even noticeable and not even worth mentioning in my opinion. The biggest incident that I had was while traveling I hit a red tailed hawk going about 80 mph. The hawk smashed into my windshield, completely smashing it and wedging itself up underneath the car top carrier and my roof. When we pulled over, I saw the hawk still stuck under the carrier and I shoved him out. Hawk was fine and flew away and so was the carrier! I was absolutely stunned that there was no damage to the carrier up top. I HIGHLY recommend this car top carrier to anyone who might have any reservations with purchasing this. I had zero issues and couldn't be happier with it.

Product fully aligned with description & great aesthetic appearance.2 key comments i would made there :1. As i did own the previous version, the newer one is actually more flimsy as the upper part does no longer get re-enforcement from side to side ....2. I wish the rails could allow more room for translation considering that newer car come with pre-set positions for roof bars.

I’ve had this for two years and loved it until now. This became our saviour when making our yearly summer trip. A great carrier until coming across its weakness on a current trip. All prior uses have been in warm weather. This trip is early and cooler than usual, though still above freezing. Go out to the car to load it up before leaving in the morning and the lock is jammed on both sides. The mechanism won’t release fully, leaving the middle locks still engaged. Try it out midday after arriving at our destination after its warmed up, works fine. The lock seems prone to jamming in cold temperatures.

I used it on a Honda Civic. Very spacious and looks great. I was worried that it will create a lot of drag in the highway but it didn't and surprisingly quiet driving @ 70mph during a very rainy trip to US. Three days of almost non-stop rain and all our stuff was dry. Highly recommended!

Awesome , very good quality !Bought the Large one ....Fits my 2015 Chevy equinox , the rear antenna it’s a bit bent , the trunk opens just perfect . With the xl one the trunk wouldn’t open completely.

Excellent. Wish I had bout this before the Sportsrack. More expensive but much better quality. Side loading is great. When you first receive it you need patience since instructions are not clear but once you figure it out it is a breeze.

The unit arrived in good order and looks like it will be a great asset to our ski trips and summer camping trips.
