Good for old videos
This product is not fancy, but does a great job of letting us watch our old videos. We plan to use this product to transfer our vids to DVD. This product lets us do that. We bought another brand that broke after about 3 uses. This one seems to be more sturdy. There are some delicate parts though so be careful. If not for that, i would give 5 stars.

AMBICO VHS-C Adapter
It worked as advertized. Before using it, I looked it over carefully. The mechanism seemed to be sticking a little bit, so I sprayed everything with a silicone spray dry lubricant. This seemed to make it open and close much smoother. Only then did I insert a tape into the adapter.I inserted the VHS-C tape very carefully, making sure that it was positioned just right before closing the adapter. Then I inserted it into the VCR just like a regular cassette. It worked the first time. I was very pleased.I can see that the adapter is dellicate and should be used carefully. But that said, I did not have any problems.

Working So Far - Must Be Extremely Gentle With It
I ordered this product because it was advertised as an adapter made by "Ambico". The ratings on that model were better than average. In contrast, A similar model by Phillips / Magnavox was rated poor and was prone to breakage, malfunction, and often damaged the tapes. I would never have purchased that model.I was impressed by how quickly I received the package, but upon opening saw that I had been sent a Magnavox adapter instead of the Ambico brand. Because it would have cost me more to return it than it was worth, I decided to cut my losses and give it a shot. I've used it on 6 tapes so far an it's still working and not damaging the tapes. You must be extremely gentle with it when loading the tapes and closing the door. Follow instructions closely and check the tape tension once installed in the adapter. Also check the tape path to see that is is correctly aligned. The product itself seems to be OK for now, but advertising one product while shipping another has left a bad taste in my mouth.=====================REVISED: Received a post-delivery communication from the seller. They sell both the Ambico and Phillips/Magnavox interchangeably. They offered to work with me if I had problems with the Magnavox. I appreciate the offer but the return postage isn't worth the trouble at this point and, knock on wood, the unit is still working fine as long as the loading and unloading process is done with extreme care. It's as much a limitation of the loading function you need to perform (inherently difficult and delicate no matter which adapter is used) as it is a limitation of this product. If ordering from this vendor, it might be worth trying to request the Ambico product. Because it has performed well so far (7 times), I am raising my rating from 2 to 3 stars. Time will tell.

Works
Works fine. Can't just ram the VHS-C into it, of course. Line it up properly and gently work it into place. No problem.

Chinese Junk
This thing eats every tape I put in it, unless I wind the tape in correctly by sticking my finger into the little gear and twisting like a screwdriver. It's a wonderful idea to make such a piece of junk and charge $15 for it. I love how that works. Great!

Great adapter
Got the adapter with-in the first two days out of the six they said it might be shipped. I used it the next day and it worked great. No problems with at all. I used in two different tape players no problems. I read the directions before I used it so that I would not screw anything up. It was reaaly wonderful to look at the old VHS-C tapes I had.
