Great Product!
I never thought there would be a time when such a simple looking item could be so priceless! It's the perfect answer to fresh bread and great looks on the counter. It surely is better than having those tons of plastic bags laying around, what a mess that can be! I found a trick that works great. I let the bread cool down just enough to where it's almost cold then in it goes to the bread keeper and viola, worked perfect and fresh bread - was better than I had expected it to be and what made it better was the no fuss no mess!! When the bread keeper is empty it's a snap to clean it out with warm soapy water and let it air dry on the dish rack. I kept the box to store the container in when it's not being used, it's small enough that I can put the item in my pantry and it doesn't take up any room. I'll surely be getting another one of these for a holiday gift (or two). This was surely a great investment and well worth the price!

Works like a champ (5th star for a fuure product)
Yes, it is a little messy when you open it. Not a big deal, but worth noting. On the other hand, the 2 pound loaves from my Zojirushi horizontal bread maker fit perfectly, and with room to spare. It also looks great on the counter, and is crystal clear to help highlight what is inside. The slicing guide (which is shown sideways in the Amazon.com photo), is the perfect companion to a sharp, serrated bread knife. With it, I can cut thin, uniform slices of my latest sandwich creation, and I get no complaints from the hungry mouths on the other end of the counter. As for the acrylic construction, well, it's true! So what? It's a crystal clear, dishwasher safe, sturdy polymer. It is built to hold a loaf of bread, but is tough enough to take any expected kitchen abuse, as well as having a better humidity control arrangement than any breadbox that I was subjected to as a kid. It is by no means flimsy, and simply looks and works very well.

Perfect for the Price
I love this bread keeper! Yes, it does have some of the issues mentioned in some of the more negative reviews. But when you keep in mind this item is under $10, looks great, keeps bread perfectly fresh, and includes a bread slicing guide, I am really not sure what more any reasonable person could expect?I have no problem whatsoever opening and/or closing mine. Some have complained, I have no issue at all.It does tend to leave some crumbs when you open up a stored loaf. This does not concern me, I guess I just expect crumbs with bread? The slicing guide can occasionally produce some sliced plastic if you are not careful to avoid cutting the guide edges with your knife. I think I prefer that to dulling my good bread knife on some slice-proof surface, or paying twice the price for slice-proof materials.I have the Cuisinart CBK-200 Bread Machine. I typically make 2 pound loaves. Some rise more than others. Most any loaf I have made fits in this bread keeper. Granted, some with the slicing guide removed, some after the initial tasting slices are placed in my belly, or some sideways etc. But most everything has fit.All said, one of the best $10 investments I have ever made. For the price, I don't think I could expect to be any more satisfied.

I like the bread cutter.
I make bread because I have a son who is allergic to wheat and dairy. The bread slicer allows me to slice straighter and thinner pieces of bread which is great - I get more pieces out of a loaf and they look better. It works fine but I wish the slicer was a little more sturdy. Truthfully I purchased this product for the slicer not the bread keeper. The bread keeper works O.K., I especially like it when we travel because it keeps the bread from getting crushed, but gets smaller as we use up a loaf. I don't love the air holes in the bread keeper, it is too much air for rice bread and tends to allow it to dry out too quickly, but it would probably work better for wheat bread. For the price, this was a good purchase, plus I couldn't find a better bread slicer even at a higher price.

Really Works!
I bought this item becuase we only eat home made bread. This really does keep our bread fresh~! It also has kept us from wasting a lot of bread. We (house of 3) were going through almost 3 loaves a week just for toast, sandwiches and french toast. But now that we can slice them evenly we go through 1 and a half loaves.I only gave it 4 stars because 1. I cant used my electric knife. The blades get caught due to them being too short. 2. The plastic guide prongs bend easily so I know someday (hopefully not soon) they will break off when slicing manually. They need to make something for you to hold on to while slicing. 3.There are deep knife markings on the bottom already. I try not to think that we may have eaten some plastic.

Pretty darned functional
How well does it store bread? It keeps my home-made bread reasonably fresh for about a week. I recommend that you turn the loaf each time you put it away so that sometimes the loaf is resting on it's side. How well does it slice bread? The slices are a little thicker than I like, but they are even. I suspect that I will eventually break off one of the guide fingers, but for the price, that is not unexpected.Ease of use? I find it a little awkward to pull or push the two sections apart or together - knobs on the ends of each section would be very helpful here.If the marketing folks are listening: I would have paid twice the price to have the base and slicing guides made of wood.

Adequate box, slicer plastic shreds
I have had this box for a while now and it works fine. It doesn't allow too much air in and it fits nicely in my cabinet, unlike most other bread boxes at which I had looked when I bought it. The slicing guide's rungs are perfectly spaced for my purposes but the guide's bottom isn't grooved so my knife slices into it to fully cut through the bread. Over time this has caused some slight shredding of the plastic and I'm starting to have to brush off little splinters from my slices before eating them. If the slicing guide is a selling point for you then I recommend looking elsewhere and make sure to either get one with either a cutting-board density wooden base or one with a grooved bottom so that you don't end up getting splinters stuck in your intestine.
