Having a latvian mother,grandmother and aunt whose lives had followed a similar pattern of leaving Latvia just before the Russians 're invaded ,spending time in DP camps and finally starting a new life in another country I was very moved by this book.It has enabled me to understand with greater empathy what they felt and experienced . My family came to Northern England where I was born and raised. I would recommend this book to the large circle of Latvian friends whose families have had similar experiences
