These provide somewhat neater if limited options for marking your golf ball for identification purposes, compared to scrawling a freehand set of dots or initials. I favor a star myself, to the left of and below each manufacturer's name. One can see one of the two marks from a fair distance, which helps sort the various shots out for a little bit faster play. Plus, these don't cost a fortune, and if you lose it you can always get another. They are fairly sturdy, and while it is undoubtedly possible to break one, you would probably have to work at it.

This X configuration marker is great - helps to line up your putt. BUT the PGA is concerned that a lot of players are using this and setting up the shot takes extra time. SOO if you buy this and use it - consider pace of play and don't take 5 minutes to set up a putt!
