It's very simple and fun for beginners!
I got this for a friend who wants to learn Spanish. She tried some other "beginning" books and was very confused. This is simple and doesn't get too technical. Once she moves through it, I can get her a more advanced one. For now she is having fun with it! So, it is appreciated to have this simple text to help her!

Simple Breakdown
Bought this to add to our Spanish curriculum in homeschool. I like the way it's organized systematically with most practical/ common phrases learned first. Though the book is easy enough for kids to understand on their own, I wouldn't say this is a book to buy for a child to self-study. It works well for us bc as the teacher, I go through each portion and I ask the questions and give the examples, then we do it together, but the 'activities' in this book are NOT exciting or really engaging at all. That would have to be extra on the parent's part. I would even say this book would be IDEAL for adults who have absolutely no experience with Spanish but want to learn. Everything is broken down into basics nicely but the content itself is not childish, meaning you're really learning all the pieces of the language both grammatically and conversationally, including the necessary vocab. The only downside to that is there is no audio portion, unless they offer something on their website.

Excellent info; needs supplementation.
This book has the same info that I got in my Spanish 1 text in college, but it presents it in a kid-friendly format. I had tried using my college text to teach my kids, but they were bored by the adult format--dialogues and nothing fun. This book has some fun. But not much. It seems to me that this book is really lacking in activities. There's no way a kid is going to learn to learn 27 parts of the body after just one workbook page that only has 5 blanks to fill in, and one suggested activity (drawing a picture and labeling the parts). This book mostly has lists of words in English and then Spanish, as well as helpful hints: "There is no English V sound in Spanish." I think it is possible to teach kids Spanish using this book even if the parent/teacher has no experience with Spanish because the helpful hints really are helpful, but because of the lack of exercises, using this book will either require supplementation of some sort, or it will require alot of memorizing lists.

Perfect for a beginner with no prior Spanish knowledge.
This is the first book I was able to find that actually starts you from the very beginning. It is definitely for someone who has no prior knowledge of Spanish. All the other books I found were more like a picture dictionary which just teaches nouns and nothing else. Or ones that assume you already know the basics and you are lost the minute you open it. This book teaches about when to use el, and la, and the small words like the, and, you, me, I. It teaches the basics like how to pronounce letters, numbers, colors, how to address people, basic greetings and more. The puzzles are fun and it makes learning fun.

So-so Spanish book for kids
I thought I was going to be wowwed by this learning book, which I purchased for my 5th grade student who already had 12 years of Spanish acculturation from living in New Mexico. I have found the lessons text-heavy rather than giving practical applications. If this was a text for adult learners, it would work wonderfully; since it is geared for children, it is not practical unless an adult is teaching from the book in a classroom format. What is missing is good, kid-oriented learning applications as well as a teacher guide for explaining/lesson plans, etc. I'm disappointed with this purchase.

Great book for beginners
My 8 years old son has randomly decided, on his own, that he wants to learn Spanish so I ordered him this book to get him started. It was actually the second book that I bought him, the first one was a Spanish to English dictionary and WAY too boring to keep his interest. This one on the other hand is great. It gives common sentences in English and then Spanish with pictures and games to help him remember the words. It has several worksheet type pages and is easy to understand. The pages feel more like coloring pages then book pages and a little thin but it doesn't effect the learning quality of this book. This is a perfect beginners book and we are both excited to learn a new language.

Simple and concise spanish lessons
I needed something fun for my kids to practice their spanish. What I did not realize was this wasn't just activities for them to do. This book has actual lessons throughout the book and really doesn't have too many activities. I am not upset with the purchase because I should have paid closer attention to the description and I did need something like this to teach my early elementary children spanish. This book has 10 chapters and is laid out with the basics first progressing through manners, places and things. As far as a simple spanish lesson book this book is 5 stars. Unfortunately, I am still in search of spanish activity book.
