Seed No Evil: A Flower Shop Mystery

A Wedding and Murder is in the Air!
The wedding that I have been waiting and reading of for the past months, years...is coming up! Abby Knight and Marco Salvare are due to marry in a fortnight (as my Mum said,) unless Abby's mother's arrest cramps the ceremony. What? Well, you see Mrs. Knight found a body and so she is suspect number one for the murder of a disliked woman at the animal shelter she volunteers for.Abby Knight is the owner of Bloomer's Flower Shop a floral/Victorian tea shop in New Chapel, Indiana. Fiancé Marco Salvare is owner of Down the Hatch a local beloved bar with wonderful sounding sandwiches. The duo are also in a joint Private Investigation firm, Marco being licensed and Abby learning the ropes after her propensity for finding bodies became evident to both. The wedding is all organized and all Abby has to concern her is weak floral business, when her Mom phones to have Abby come to her aid at the Police Station. If the affianced couple does not solve this crime the wedding may have to be postponed as Abby needs her Mother at the wedding (very true!)Added into this mix is the sobering fact that the animal shelter is thinking of changing it's policy from 'No Kill' to 'Kill.' As Maureen rushes to organize a protest, Abby finds herself unable not to sneak in questions about the policy change to each suspect! Certainly the two adorable (well, one is a bit of a grow on you situation,) dogs, Mother and child, add time sensitivity to this situation for Abby and her niece, Tara. This story draws me in each volume of the series. There is always humor to be enjoyed, a pithy dialog between characters, and a good mystery to figure out. This particular one tugged at my heart strings. There were a couple of action scenes and situations that were crucial to plots of murder and wedding.I am so eager for the next novel to come out in 2014...that seems too long to wait, but, I shall go to my 'Wish List' and throw my good luck penny into the fountain to remember it's publishing date. Please enjoy this novel as I did!

I cried, I laughed, I loved this book
Abby Knight needs to focus on her wedding to Marco Salvare which will take place in less than two weeks but distractions keep popping up. Her flower shop isn't doing great business, the equipment in the shop keeps breaking down, Marco seems distant, her cousin Jillian is stressing over her pregnancy, and Abby's neck swells up suddenly. All of this is more than enough to deal with but things become even more stressful when Abby's mother becomes one of the main suspects in a murder. Abby and Marco add investigating the murder to their list of things to do but they soon find out that very few of the suspects will cooperate and when they do they may not be telling the truth."Seed No Evil" is the very enjoyable fourteenth book in Kate Collins's Flower Shop cozy mystery series. Long-time fans of the series will be happy that Abby and Marco's wedding is finally approaching and will love reading about the wedding preparations; newcomers to the series will be pulled right into the story and no doubt want to go back and read earlier books in the series. Collins does an excellent job of balancing both the wedding and the mystery storylines - I like the way she shows how stressful planning a wedding can be and that Abby and Marco struggle as much as any real-life couple would (both with their relationship and work worries). I also like the way Jillian is growing throughout the series - yes she is still a bit self-centered in this book but she is also very human with some real fears. She also adds some much needed humor to this book - the murder is a bit more gruesome than I am used to in a cozy mystery (although Collins does not go into gory details) and the revealing of the killer saddened me. As for the very ending of the book - it was everything I wanted it to be and more. I smiled and I cried at the same time and am now eagerly waiting for the next book in the series. Well done."Seed No Evil" is another nice cozy mystery by Kate Collins.

Always a good story.....
I have been following this story line since it started. Nice to see Abbey and Marco finally married. However, this time i noted some inconsistencies and some inaccuracies that I just have to mention. The book cover for Seed No Evil And Throw in the Trowel show an adorable dog with four legs. Seedy is suppose to be a dog so ugly only a mother could love her AND she is missing a hind leg. Lets get our cover art to match the story. Also, in Throw in the Trowel, the have Seedy lifting her leg to wet on a bikes tire. Well, only BOY dogs lift their leg and if Seedy lifted her leg she would fall over due to the aforementioned missing hind leg.My dad is a writer and I know how hard he works to have the story line flow and be consistent throughout. So I admire Ms Collins stories, but just a little more attention to accuracies and consistencies would be appreciated.

Simply The Best
I love this book.Everyone is accounted for in the latest happenings in New Chapel, Indiana. Abby and Marco are on the case when Abby's mother finds a dead body at the shelter she works at and become the main suspect. It's up to Abby and Marco to find someone with a strong motive to kill, this while Abby is preparing for her wedding with small obstacles creeping up.With a good mystery that quickly became a page-turner, some comic relief with Jillian and her pregnancy and her mother's loss of creativity, this was truly an ensemble of characters coming together to push our Abby to show her strength in getting down to the business of clearing her mother to the big day and what a good read this was. Filled with engaging conversations, humor, romance and a tightly woven mystery, this is the best book ever, bringing me to tears at the touching conclusion. With a new beginning for Abby and Marco, I can't wait to read the next book in this delightfully entertaining series.
