This is an excellent text for courses in epidemiology. It provides substantial information regarding the topic. The font is small but the book packs a great deal of material!

Ken Rothman is a leading thinker driving modern epidemiology. This is a must-read for serious students and learners

Covers almost all the issues in a high level of detail. They have substantially improved formatting and layout. You get a code too download the e-book version.

The paper is extremely thin and fragile, and the ink smudges by only slightly pressing with a finger.The is not better than a cheap home print. Also, the hardcover version is not available.

Unfortunately, a book of this level and from a publisher as renowned as Wolters Kluwer shows this editing defect. My book is missing pages 881 to 912. Because of this, I cannot suggest purchasing a product with these types of problems.

My book is missing pages 977 to 1008. It's a terrible mistake for an important editorial company and an important title.

This is probably the most important textbook in epidemiology directed towards advanced learners. I had to study the third edition as a doctoral student to pass the qualifying exam. There are many good things about the new 4th edition:1- Updated chapters reflect recent developments in study design and methods over the past decade.2- New authors have been added, who either updated old chapters or added new ones.3- References are now numbered and added to the end of each chapter, which makes searching for references easier.4- The new edition is more colorful, which is more eye-friendly.There are things I did not like about the new edition:1- Adding new authors/editors made the 'style of writing' different between chapters. Some chapters are written in a beautiful easy to understand English, others are filled with jargon and makes you feel confused. The removal of Sander Greenland is a big loss in this edition, even his chapter on Bayesian analysis is just a reprint from the third edition.2- Some topics are now made more confusing because of adding too much details. Just read the definition of confounder/confounding by VanderWeele et al. in this edition (chapter 12) and you will know what I mean.3- The book added some 'niche' chapters like Psychiatric epidemiology but still does not have a chapter on cardiovascular epidemiology.4- Where did the excellent chapter on DAGs go? It has been deleted in this edition!5- I think editors/publisher should have made it a two-volume book where one on methods and study design, and the other on special topics. That could have helped with the size of the book and gave authors more room to explain the topics in detail without worrying about length.6- Printing quality is simply bad. Just compare this edition to the previous two :ME3 and ME2 and you will notice the thin glossy paper that can be easily torn, and the low print quality on it. Oh, it's not available in hard cover either. I wish it was available as PDF rather than Kindle.If this is your first epidemiology book, look elsewhere. It will make you hate epidemiology and be lost in a desert. I still do not think there is an excellent intro book as I have tried to read many of those on the market such as Gordis, mini Rothman, Beyond basics, and recently Westreich. Maybe Rothman needs to update his intro book.But once you master the basics, Modern Epidemiology will be helpful in taking you deeper into the subject or as a reference on your bookshelf.Have fun fellow epidemiologist!

The pages are super thin, but at least that makes the content fit into one book :) I saw some reviews that this edition might miss some pages, but I need to read on to search for that.

My book is missing page 817-848.We'd better check the whole book before scratching the seal to get ebook access.

The formulas corresponding to content in Chapter 21 are presented in Chapter 20 by mistake.
