The fight between good and evil is at the basis of most books ...
Many say the plot development is very slow and in general it is! But that is the beauty of this book (and also the second two books in the trilogy) I wanted to spend more time with the characters. The fight between good and evil is at the basis of most books written today and many readers love short chapters and lightning fast story development, two weeks after reading one of these books they are completely forgotten. The Watchers is not one of those books and I would not recommend it to those who like quick reads but to those who love to linger with characters and enjoy a slowly developing story The Watchers is for you as well as parts two and three of this trilogy.

Angel Noir
Jon Steele has written a haunting mystery of "intersecting lines of causality," with references to the lost Book of Enoch, human evolution, medieval architecture and sex slavery. The character of le guét of the Lausanne Cathedral bell tower is heartbreakingly memorable. This is my fourth time reading the book in anticipation of the release of the third book of the trilogy. It was still mesmerizing and stays with me. I appreciate the thoughtful combination of mystery with hopefulness.

a fun read despite some clunky dialog and a couple of stereotypes for characters.
Two lead characters' dialog seems right out of 1940/50 hard boiled detective novel. However, the dialog of and development of most other characters are pretty well done. The fantastical premise of presence of Watchers in modern world is interesting and fun to read. Basic premise reminds me of Trussoni's "Angelology" and "Angelopolis." This review replies only to the first two in the trilogy, so there may be a kind of intentional purpose in the use of stereotypical detective, really an angel, and a prostitute, being protected by a network of "cops" who protect good angels who are fighting the Watchers -- an intention that is revealed in the third novel.

Well done and engaging if a bit slow
Not much more to say than that. The writing is excellent from top to bottom. The characters are engaging and I felt myself genuinely worried about their fate. However it was slow. Not really a thriller in the traditional sense when you're about two hundred and fifty pages in and wondering when something's going to happen. But they were fun characters to spend time with so I didn't mind that much and ultimately things picked up to a rousing conclusion.

Phenomenal good read!
What a great story. Steele writes brilliantly, his characters jump off the page and pull you along. The plot does not appear until somewhere near chapter 6 or 7, but you're so intrigued by the interesting people that you just can't put it down.Thrilling suspense and mysterious mysteries weave our characters together into an intricate tapestry that pits ancient evils against all mankind. Our only hope for survival is a man with no memory beyond waking in his hotel room 6 weeks ago.I absolutely LOVED this book!

A Great Read, Well written
If you can refer to a book of sex, Satanism, and suspense as refreshing, this one is. The last book I read concerning angels, nephelem, and superstition was such a disappointment that this one was refreshing; it was interesting, complex,(but not confusing), and well written.I anticipate reading the next in the trilogy as soon as I finish Book 6 of the Dresden Files.

A somewhat slow start - please persevere.
I first bought this book as a holiday read in Florida. It got put aside on my return home. Then a few years later when clearing out the house prior to moving it got lost again.Having moved I wanted to read it again. Got the Kindle edition - very glad that I did. Good protagonists, you ask who is this person, why are they there and why are they involved.I am looking forward to the next installment, it is already in my Kindle Library,

engrossing, thought-provoking, uplifting to an extent
My favourite trilogy so far, which is saying a lot ! – but there again, I've so far only read books 1 & 2, not yet number 3 ...

To all who may suspect, add to that this knowledge. So read and contemplate and, perhaps, tread a little further. Soon!
