This is a great book for kids to learn about mammoths. The cartoons are great and the information is precise and concise. I would highly recommend for the 6-10 year old who is interested in mammoths.

Great series of books that adds history while still entertaining the little ones.

This book was a fun read and offered information we had not encountered before. Our children used this book in their homeschooling studies (BYL) in a unit study on Prehistory. I highly recommend this book to any children interested in prehistoric times. It gives a great look at what it was like to live in this era with EXCELLENT illustrations for children (and adults!).

I enjoyed the way the book presented ideas about the Ice Age and its inhabitants in a cartoon format. However, I was looking for a book that was appropraite for 1st graders to read independently this would be a little above them. I think 2nd and 3rd graders would enjoy this book and be able to understand the humor.

My daughter is eight and just loves this series. She recently requested that I borrow the Mammoth Hunter one from the library again, so I just went ahead and bought it from Amazon. It is funny, the information on the book says that the reading level is for ages 4-8. No wonder the 1st Grade teacher was confused! This series is marvelous for 3rd - 5th grades, as the other reviewer said. They are rather sophisticated in layout (many fast-paced "blurbs" of informtaion splattered on the pages instead of a slow, steady narrative), language, and themes. But, how fun is it to learn the down and dirty aspects about historical times and cultures? So fun! Really a hoot of a series. Not only does my daughter thoroughly enjoy these books, but I've purchased them for my friend's son who is a couple years older, and he loves them, too! In other words, I think that these books will have a long shelf life in the interest realm of your child.

My grade 4 daughter loved this book, as she has with many others in this series. It is funny, informative and kept her reading.I don't know why people judge books by their expectations (e.g., it wasn't good for my grade 1 students, so I'll give it only 3 stars) and not on its own merits. Book is not meant to be read by grade 1s. It's much better for grades 3 - 5.
