Norvell is excellent, but so is Sjolie and Loving Tan
I purchased Norvell “dark”, and I have very light skin. I was frustrated with a lot of different brands because “dark” was not really dark at all. I have been on a long journey to find a good self tanner, here is my honest opinion. Norvell: PROS—it is very lightweight, the scent is nice and light, you forget you have it on when you’re letting it set. I was able to spray it on and blend with a mitt and the coverage was pretty even. It takes a long time to fade, it’s long lasting especially with a tanning moisturizer. I only needed 1 coat instead of going 2-3 coats and taking a ton of time. I don’t feel all sticky and gross after wearing it the 24 hours. The cost is about average with other high quality self tanners. CONS: it did give me strawberry legs, it does not hold up well against sweat or stick-on bras, you do have to let it set for 24 hours. Loving tan is probably the best product I’ve ever used, it never gave me strawberry legs, it didn’t smell bad, you could wash it off after a nights sleep, it lasted well over a week and the fade was super even. Sjolie is my 3rd favorite brand, it does have a bit of a worse odor than Norvell and Loving tan. It never gave me strawberry legs, and if I bought it in bulk it was very fair in price. St Tropez: WAY too expensive, and my product turned all the way green after sitting over the winter. It ruined before I could really test it out. Bondi Sands: is my least favorite, but is still a much better product than something like Tanned AF, Jergens, etc. the SMELL will make you sick all night wishing it was time to rinse. And then your whole room will stink like it for a day. The color is pretty great, I loved the dark color and that it fades pretty good, it’s long lasting, but that smell really killed it for me. **the cheap drugstore brands will end up costing you more in the long run, I tried them all, you’re paying a lot of money for a foaming product that requires double or triple the applications to get the same result. (I’m looking at you, Jergens) Lastly, here’s a pro tip: instead of ruining your sheets or buying a terribly expensive tanning sheet/bag, just buy a lightweight summer sleeping bag and have a nice day. No more changing the sheets, sleeping on towels, ruining comforters. Oh, and buy Norvell, Loving Tan, or Sjolie and try them out.

The Best!
Let me start by first off saying that I have tried just about every self-tanner out there. I've always struggled with an orangy and/or inconsistant color. I've tried Mystic Tanning - which I found to be just "ok" and spray tans done by professionals @ salons. I found the spray tans to be - by FAR - the most realistic looking tan...but the price was crazy and I couldn't afford to keep it up. I saw that the salon I was going to was using this brand - Norvell Amber Sun Dark and decided to buy it myself. My husband uses this solution in his air compressor (nothing fancy...just a normal compressor) - there are a ton of youtube video's on how to properly tan someone using this method. I LOVE this solution - it is bronzy and not at all orange or brassy looking. There is a smell afterwards but it's not bad...kind of smells like tanning lotion. I like that this has a bronzing agent in it because you can see where it's going and make sure its even. Honestly, I can't imagine using a solution without the bronzer in it - I've tried before and I felt I was working blindly; guessing if it was consistant - and then the next day after it fully develops, it's too late to fix it. I highly recommend this product. I have very fair skin and this Dark solution is perfect for me. Usually I do 2 full passes of this and then we go back to see if we need to "touch up" anywhere. You will be immediately tan so you'll be able to see where you need to apply more. As with all self tanners, it helps to exfoliate first. I always apply the night before (you will feel a bit "tacky" for several hours afterwards) and by the next morning, I can shower to get that extra bronzer off, and the tan remaining is perfect. It definately is on the dark side - but its very realistic. I've gotten SO many compliments on this. I also like the "Venetian" formula....but this one is my favorite. By Day 4 I see fading in areas but it's still ok. Day 5, I simply exfoliate really well to even it out as much as I can and then re-apply. Doing this maintains my tan. This whole bottle is the cost of 1 spray tan in my area. I'd say I get about 8 spray tans out of this bottle and I apply pretty heavily. Highly recommend this product!!

Favorite solution since 2014!
Norvell has always been my favorite spray tan solution. I’ve been using their products since 2014. Great quality and color. Seems to last a little longer than other brands. I typically will mix 2:1 double dark and dark. Love the results.

AMAZING!
I have been a loyal user of St. Tropez for years and this will now be my go too! Let’s start by mentioning price, 8oz for $20 that’s awesome! Applying is simple I used a mitt and added to an empty foam bottle. Not streaky or sticky once dried. It has that fake tan scent but I apply before bed n showered in the morning and it’s not a strong scent honestly it didn’t stick around long after showering. I would be cautious because it probably will transfer but everything I own is dark colored so I can’t stay I noticed transferring. I’m extremely fair and I purchased dark but next time I’ll probably go darker or just layer up in the original dark. I did a lot of research and this regular dark solution is for fair skin that usually burns without olive tones and it’s really nice it’s not orange it’s a good natural color. I added pics and everyone’s probably like omg she’s not tan but in real life I’m like …extremely fair blonde hair blue eyes and I don’t tan.

Doesn't get you super dark but.....
I should start this review by mentioning I do not use this in a sprayer but instead I pour it into a foam pump and then apply with a mitt. I am pale. Not Casper the friendly ghost pale, but pale enough that my dark arm hairs is possibly the only thing that makes me have any color. I've been loyal to spray tans and usually have great results that last 7 days. I decided on a whim to try this out myself. I read virtually every review and decided i needed to check the expiration date as soon as it arrived. Thankfully it doesnt expire for another 6 months. Pros: The bronze tint is amazing. It has enough color that I can clearly see where I need to apply to make sure things are even. The smell... does it even have a smell? Maybe a tad bit of a cinnamon smell but this is the least smelling formula I have ever used. Zero stickiness. I could not believe how I do not feel sticky at all. I ended up letting it dry which only took a few minutes and decided to apply another coat. After a couple hours I looked extremely blotchy. I was starting to regret doing a second coat. I am a bigger girl, 5'5" and weight 200lbs. Applying 2 coats on my whole body, i used around 3 ounces of product. I then waited a full 20 hours before I showered. I used a light body wash and felt like I had rinsed every single bit of color off my body by as much bronzer color that went down the drain. After I dried off, I noticed I was tan, but definitely not as dark as I assumed I would be. However all of the streaking had disappeared. If you are looking for that just spent a week in the Bahamas look, I would suggest that you order a darker color. But if you are looking for a nice even tan, this is the one.

Gave it a chance...LOVED it!
After reading some really mediocre reviews, I was hesitant to buy this but it was one of the cheaper Norvell options so I thought I’d start here. In short: I love it! If you want more detail, keep reading. I sprayed myself using this solution in my St. Tropez Pro Light machine and if worked PERFECTLY. Great guide color to show you exactly where you were getting the product, and I don’t find the smell to be super overwhelming like some other solutions I’ve used. Now one of the BEST things I’ve found about this solution is that it didn’t have ANY (yes, A. N. Y.) transfer to my all white bed sheets as I slept overnight before washing off. Seriously, I find this miraculous because every other self tanner solution I try looks like a war zone with brown streaks everywhere on my sheets when I wake up. So that’s a plus for me. After washing off, I have found that this gives a really nice color. Much better than other more expensive solutions. Not orange but still dark enough to look like you just got home from a nice vacation on some far away island. I’ve attached a picture of what it looks like once the guide color is washed off after 8 hours. I find that this lasts about 4-5 days before needing to spray, which is pretty standard across most solutions I’ve tried. I also found that this does wash out of clothes/towels, which is nice. Spilled a good amount on my bath mat on accident but it came out easily with regular detergent. Overall, I think this is an amazing option for this price point. I feel like the color develops well on my skin tone (I’m extremely pale), doesn’t leave my sheets looking like I ate chocolate in my sleep, and lasts a good amount of time before needing to reapply. I will definitely be buying again!

Beautiful golden tan color
I bought this with a spray tan machine. When my husband was finished spraying me, I though it would be a disaster. I did see drip marks on my skin and we quickly blended them in with a glove. It does have color so make sure you aren't wearing anything you don't want to get stained. When I got up in the morning, my skin did look splotchy but after I showered, it was even. The color was golden tan without any orange at all. It lasted about 5 days and I felt like I just returned from a tropical vacation. I love the look!

Splotchy and orange
The salon I used to work at used Norvell for our spray tans. So when I bought my own spray tan machine I automatically went with Norvell branded spray tan. First thing that happened was the lid broke- so I duct taped it because I couldn't find anything else to fit on the bottle (which meant the solution wasn't going to last as long). So after spraying my friend and myself we both noticed that after the tan developed it was blotchy. When we were sprayed it looked even and nice, but after showering in the morning the tan was no longer even. Lots of random patches where the tan didn't take a well (even though we followed all the pre-tanning instructions). I chopped this up to the first time using the machine. The spray tan was also very orange on my skin. Well the second time we used Norvell I bought a whole new bottle of the Norvell Dark since I was afraid the formula went bad due to the broken cap. We had the same results with patchiness. At this point we were able to determine it was the Norvell formula because we had used other spray tan solutions in between and had much better results using the same machine (that way were were able to determine it wasn't user error). I'm not sure what is going on with the Norvell Dark spray tan solution but it needs some major work. It's ok, but if you want even, consistent results I would try Sjolie or Aviva solutions. Sjolie is around the same price point and you get much longer lasting results (around a week and a half) with no splotching and a nice fade out.
