Through it's synthesis of Antony's songs and unfurling video portraiture of the 13 beauties who performed on stage, TURNING creates an intimate and cinematic experience exploring themes of identity, transcendence and the revelation of essence. Also included in the deluxe package is the full TURNING concert recorded live at the Barbican, London, Nov. 2006 and contains songs across the first three Antony and the Johnsons' full length albums along with bonus tracks never before released songs - 'Whose are These' and 'Tears Tears Tears'. The classic lineup of Antony, Maxim Moston, Rob Moose, Julia Kent, Parker Kindred, Jeff Langston and Thomas Bartlett can be heard on these recordings as Charles Atlas' projected portraits of the girls light up the stage from behind the band for the duration of the concert.

Antony Hegarty teamed up with Mark Atlas to make this wonderful documentary that mixes live performance, Antony's voice and songs, projected visuals, trans-women, dignity and beauty. To quote the movie Beaches, this performance is both promising and purposeful. Both DVD and CD will be a treasured addition to my Antony collection.

Amazing
So beautiful, this is a spectacular live album. So far I've listened to this album for hours and hours and I could listen to it forever. Antony's voice is magnificent and the instruments are extravagant. So much emotion, and full of meaning.

I heard only the CD - and that's enough. In my ears too kitschy, trivial melodic fragments repeated again and again, e.g. the intro to No 3.; no harmony too simple not be be banged on the keybord. Full bath in sugery sentimentalism, pretending meaning where emptiness reigns. The voice at least fits to the style (and may please a certain subculture): a mixture of Freddie Mercury and (parodied) Brian Ferry.
