These provide somewhat neater if limited options for marking your golf ball for identification purposes, compared to scrawling a freehand set of dots or initials. I favor a star myself, to the left of and below each manufacturer's name. One can see one of the two marks from a fair distance, which helps sort the various shots out for a little bit faster play. Plus, these don't cost a fortune, and if you lose it you can always get another. They are fairly sturdy, and while it is undoubtedly possible to break one, you would probably have to work at it.

I started marking my golf balls before a round when my teammate pointed out that his was marked the same way. This item solves the problem.
