By coincidence, he found work at an electric utility, but continued his engineering education by attending night classes. Later, he joined another utility as an engineer, advancing to Division Engineer before transferring back to construction. He held titles of District Line Superintendent, Division Line Superintendent, Division Operations Manager, and retired as Area Operations Manager. He served on many industry committees, including Public Safety, Washington State Code Committee, sub-committees on the National Electrical Safety Code Committee, labor negotiations, and as chairman of Joint Apprenticeship Training Committees.
