Form and Function - Perfect!
My electric bike was stolen from my backyard. The thieves jumped my locked gate, went through the side gate then took the bike from a closed storage shed. I had thought about an alarm system but had put it off due to cost. Well, my Ring kit (5-piece) cost a heck of a lot less than my replacement bike - lesson learned. On to my review... I purchased the 5-piece refurbished Ring system. I've always had great luck with Amazon's refurbished electronics. Added was an Outdoor Gate Sensor and an Outdoor Blink Camera (I already have a Blink doorbell). The setup was pretty simple - I just took my time and followed the guides. The look of the components is modern and clean. I incorporated the base unit into one of my gallery walls. The ring changes color so I always know the state of the system and it looks cool. I included the keypad as part of a vignette by my front door. The door sensors are mounted toward the top of each door frame and pretty much blend in. I chose not to install window sensors for now. I have manual window locks because of my A/C system. I've tested the siren (it's in the base unit) and it is super loud - very effective. Arming and disarming the system from the app, Alexa, and the keypad is very simple. All systems are a go LOL! I'll be installing the gate sensor today but have already tested it and it works great. There is a range extender included but it looks like I won't need it. It would be nice if Ring would include a template to wall mount the base unit. The mounting holes on the back are pretty awkward to work with. I used Gorilla Tape to mount it rather than messing with the screw mount. I haven't decided on a subscription plan yet so I'm self-monitoring for now. Yard signs are available separately, which I'll be purchasing as an additional deterrent.

Awesome product
I moved my system from my house to my RV when I went full time. This system is awesome with maybe a quirk here or there. I’d recommend getting the solar setup for anything outside. If not you’ll be changing batteries constantly. I bought the panic button, motion detector , 5 cameras, door bell, freeze sensor, range extender and chimes equaling 31 items just on the ring, not including the robot vacuums, robot litter box, 5 Sonos speakers, 4 Alexa, Apple Home pod, 12 Emporia wireless plugs for electric monitoring, 6 lifx bulbs, 3 yard wireless lights, laptop, phone and everything else I have. All of this in my RV. The people that say this system doesn’t work, has bad signal or blah blah blah or doesn’t know what they’re doing or don’t have the wifi to handle all the components. I occasionally have a sensor that messes up but other than that all this is on my 1 T-Mobile home internet. Being in IT for 30 years I know that most of the modems only have the capacity to connect limited devices. I’ve always had to find a modem that handles all my stuff. If you having trouble with any of your wifi gadgets look at your system as that’s likely the problem. This system connect easily and works with very little interaction from me.

Ring Alarm 5-Piece Kit (newest model)
This is my third Ring alarm and the newest model. Easy to use and provides a lot of peace of mind. You will need a subscription if you decide to arm your home remotely, but the yearly price is not outrageous (yet).

Simple installation and alarm and video integration. Homeowners insurance discount, too
First off, this 5 piece alarm system has already paid for itself due to the homeowner’s insurance discount due to RING offering 24/7 monitoring for alarm and fire. While it is required you pay for the monitoring service to get the discount, it also provides cloud storage for RING doorbell video and RING camera feeds. The hookup was simple and our house now has motion detection, door/window sensors, camera coverage of the yards and doorbell video from the doorbell. All of which is streamable to our Echo Show and to our mobile devices. This was a reasonably priced alarm system that does 90% of what I was hoping. Some minor downsides are that batteries have to be changed in the sensors a few times a year and that the service is dependent on WiFi, so if you have a WiFi lapse, your RING devices won’t capture/record. Overall though, for the price, the security, the ongoing homeowners discount it provides, and ease of use, this was well worth buying. I mounted the keypad on my wall and hid all the wires by buying a separate adapter here on Amazon. I posted a picture for reference.

Good, but could be better
Cons: When on cellular backup, it seems the only thing that works is a call to the monitoring center if the alarm is triggered. No camera footage is saved, etc. The adhesive on the sensors does not work well on textured walls, and they don’t come with screws. You would need very small flat head screws, I used small nails and it was a huge pain to drive them in with the sensor housing in place. On entry delay, the base makes noise and lights up, so a perp could easily find it and smash it before it calls the monitoring center. You can turn off the sound in settings, but not the light. Can’t use echo or other amazon devices to sound alarm, which is absolutely crazy, they want to force you to buy the chime device. There is a workaround with “routines” in the Alexa app, but it’s still not as functional as it could easily be. Pros: Everything else so far EDIT OCT 2022: I’ve updated to 5 star after 17 months of using the ring alarm. The cons above are water under the bridge at this point. Ring has been great about customer service and even replaced a few devices out of warranty for free. I’ve only had one false alarm in 17 months and I use ALL motion sensors, because I figure that the window and door sensors are useless if someone breaks out a window. Btw the batteries in all of those sensors haven’t needed replaced once yet. 17 months so far, even if I have to replace soon, I will be happy with that.

Great system, easy setup easy to use.
I purchased this after having xfinity Home for 6 years. I got tired of them raising my rates and playing with contracts. I love the new Ring system. I also purchased a peephole cam and interior camera. The system is VERY easy to install. I can't believe Comcast forces a $99 install fee for their similar system to install. Everything worked as it should out of the box. The door sensors are a little larger than most but they have some give on spacing and didn't have any problems. The system itself let's you setup multiple users. I have it notify me on my phone each time my door opens and closes but this can be enabled/disabled. There are no rules options as far as I can see like I had with my last provider (i.e. Automatic arm the system at X time in case I forgot). Very excited about the $10/month price tag. I purchased some cheap smart bulbs on Amazon and have Ring patched in with them via Alexa. So in the middle of the night if my entry door open, I have the kitchen lights turn on blue for a few minutes. Early in the morning when the motion detector detects motion, the kitchen lights turn on white dim until the front door opens and I leave for work. When someone comes home during the day and disarms the alarm, my kitchen lights turn on and turn off after 30 minutes of no motion. This is all custom settings but using the Ring alarm sensors to trigger Alexa rules. Very hdlpful. Love this system.

Way to go!
I converted our alarm off of a 20 year old system using this kit and the Ring retrofit adaptor, and I am extremely pleased with the process and the result. The base kit is simple to install and works well. The retrofit kit takes a little more effort, but is pretty straight forward if you are reasonably comfortable with simple low voltage wiring. The variety of available sensors is excellent. The pricing for professional monitoring is unbelievably good. The system battery backup (with included LTE monitoring) is excellent. The associated iPhone app is comprehensive. My "cons" are trivial: Some of the sensors can be attached with 2 sided tape or screwed on, but the necessary screws are not included. The keypad is battery operated and will need to be recharged at some schedule; this is not a big deal, since a charge lasts for 3 months or so and the system gives plenty of warning. It would be great if there was a simple way to hook it into the low voltage wiring from the previous system for power. And the charging USB inlet on the pad is annoying difficult to plug into. I added a sensor to "listen" to the existing fire alarm, and ran into a little bit of trouble testing it. It would be better if the device kept its led lit while in test mode. I have read comments from others who misunderstood this setup too.
