Anker PowerPort+: A Quality Charger from a Great Company
Anker PowerPort+This is my first Amazon review. I usually don't write reviews, I tend to be a cynical buyer, but in the case of this product I will make an exception. Barring some major drop in functionality or quality, all of my future electronic charging purchases will be Anker products. First reason is they send their items in high quality boxes. When this arrived it was placed inside of a small, high quality cardboard box (yes, cardboard can be made with quality). It was fit securely and snugly inside a recessed slot in the box. Inside they leave a little note that says something like "Thank you for purchasing our product, we hope you enjoy it. If you have any issues or anything affecting your enjoyment of it, please contact us at the following number or email." This is classy customer care. Second, these products are priced very well for the quality of item you receive. Usually they are discounted on Amazon and even if they weren't, the pricing is competitive but the quality is high. In my profession, folks, we call this a "competitive advantage".To summarize:PROS:- High quality product.- Constructed of high grade, tightly fitted materials. Squeezing or bending the unit will reveal it is absolutely solid. It has good weight and heft, like a door closing on a German luxury sedan.- Charges VERY fast, especially when paired with one of their "PowerLine" chargers. It charged about 75% of my battery Samsung Galaxy Note 4's big battery in 25 minutes.- The fold-away wall plug prongs fold away with a satisfying, solid click. Several other chargers I've used have folding prongs that feel loose and flimsy. This one has a great deal of resistance as it goes through the motion of folding or unfolding.- Shipped in quality shipping materials with a nice thank you note included. ***My advice to Anker is to continue this awesome practice and live up to the service offered in the thank you note***.CONS:- The plug is a little bulky. The issue is that it's too fat on the bottom when plugged in, and the usual way to deal with this is to plug it in the bottom outlet with the thinner upper part on the top and fatter part on the bottom as it is in the picture. However, the "thinner" upper part is still too fat to fit on an outlet. I am not sure, but I suspect that this has to do with packaging for the innards (keep in mind this is a high powered charger so it will have oversized innards). Also it probably has a bit to do with the folding prongs.FINAL THOUGHTS:To Anker I say, I am a loyal customer when I find a quality item, but I am not blindly loyal. If you keep up the quality, attention to detail, and great service, you'll have a customer for life. If I detect any slips, I have no issue switching to another manufacturer. I am rarely this pleased with a manufacturer, but I have ordered two PowerPorts, one PowerLine, and I just ordered a new battery for my Galaxy Note 4 today. Keep up the good work, if you keep up your current strategy and practices, you will continue to find success.

Works
This works to quick charge an LG G5 to 80% (then it slow charges to 100% per the Quick Charge 3.0 specifications and the phone's internal cutoffs)I tested it using the stock USB C cord that came with my phone and it worked perfectly. Then I tested it with a micro USB cord and an Anker USB C adapter (where the adapter has the 56k resister) that had been approve by Benson Leung. Keeping in mind that the micro USB cord I used was a high quality data capable cable (not a piece of junk charging only cable) this set up worked great too. That is the set up I used for the screenshots seen below. With decent quality cords I immediately saw the Quick Charge icon on the battery on the phone's status bar. If it's not connected as a quick charger the icon will be the battery without the lightning bolt. As a quick charger you'll see a circle around the lightning bolt. This doesn't work with cheap cables because the phone needs to 'talk' to the charger so the phone can tell the charger to deliver the 9V power under 80% charge or switch to the 5V power above 80% charge. They need the data connection to do that. So cheap cables that are 'charge only' won't work. (This limitation SHOULD only apply to Micro USB cables with a USB C adapter. Any compliant USB C cable will be a data cable and will work. But keep in mind there are knock off USB C cables out there that don't meet the USB C specs and could potentially burn out your phone.)Even if you use a data cable that does let the phone and charger 'talk' so the Quick Charge icon comes on the phone screen, the cable might not have thick enough wires to handle the 1.8 amp power stream needed to do a Quick Charge. This could cause the charge to stop working entirely if the phone senses it's not getting the power it should be with a Quick Charge connection. In other words, make sure you're using decent cords for charging.Anyway, this charging block works well as a Quick Charge 3.0 charger for my Lg G5. (If it was only 2.0 the quick charge would stop at 50% battery and slow charge from there. 3.0 takes it to 80%. Bu your device must be 3.0 ready for that to work.)Personally I miss the days where you just bought a $2 charger with a power cord and it worked to charge everything with a mini USB port. It's now fairly complicated to find a charger and cord that's compliant with your device and it's not all universal. And if you get a bad USB C cord or charger they can destroy your device. But if you get the right combination, Quick Charging a device from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes is pretty cool. So don't buy the cheapest chargers and cords you can find. You're taking a risk doing that.

Sparks (plus update)
I have only used it about five times so far. Tried to use it tonight but noticed, after a short time, the green light had gone out and my device was no longer being charged. When I grabbed the charger to check it, it sparked from behind where it plugs into the wall. I think, because of the folding prongs, it has a short inside the charger itself.for safety reasons, I'm not going to attempt to use it again. It did work great, and charged fast, the first few times I used it. Update: Luckily, Anker has amazing customer support. A member of their team must have seen my initial review. I received an email from Anker, apologizing for the inconvenience. Not only did they express their concern, but they also verified my address so they could ship me a new product, free of charge. I have other anker products that I use often, and are quality products. I will continue to buy Anker products without concern. Great products! Great customer service!

UPDATE to original post: Charges ok if it connects
UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REVIEW: I must say Anker went out of their way to replace (free of charge) the original charger I was sent. They communicated fairly quickly.....replaced the unit and the new one seems to be doing much better....... phone is charging much more quickly.I appreciate their efforts..... only way I can see to improve the product is to go ahead and supply a USB cable with this charger. Can't use the one without the other. My original problems could have been caused by the USB cable - no way to tell so I am glad Anker replaced the charging unit.Does not always connect securely to phone. Does not seem to charge as quickly as advertised or as quickly as others I've had.
