Veep: The Complete Seventh and Final Season (Blu-ray)

"VEEP" goes out on it's own terms; profanely and unapologetic
When “VEEP” first aired in 2012 it was outrageous political satire, but when compared to the state of American politics today it’s practically a documentary. The seventh and final season of “VEEP” which had been on an extended hiatus due to star Julia Louis-Dreyfus health issues wraps things up in 7 episodes. For those unfamiliar with the much acclaimed series Louis-Dreyfus portrays Selina Meyer a fictional American vice president who is overly ambitious and aspires to nothing less than the Oval Office. She and her staff of half-wits, incompetents, and sycophants fumble and bumble their way to the top. The show is scathingly funny and skewers the political system savagely in every episode. In this last outing we find Selina back in the ring trying to win her party (which party is never disclosed) nomination for president (after she briefly became president when her predecessor stepped down at the end of season three and she was not re-elected). The competition is fierce with the likes of former White House liaison turned Congressman Jonah Ryan (Timothy Simons) and her ex- running mate Tom James (Hugh Laurie) in the mix among others. There’s a lot going on, almost too much, and the final episode at the nominating convention is pretty over the top. As always we can count on Selina to put herself first and lie, cheat, and slander her way ahead refusing to be denied her goal. Working for Selina is a thankless job and she is the portrait of a toxic boss. Overall it felt like the writers were trying too hard packing so much in and I’ll have to watch it again to catch all of the one-liners. The cast is excellent as always; Louis-Dreyfus didn’t win six consecutive Emmy’s for nothing. Tony Hale as her devoted and much abused ‘body man’ Gary is excellent. Other regulars Anna Chlumsky as Amy Brookheimer, Reid Scott as Dan Egan, and all the rest are terrific in their roles supporting the self absorbed VEEP. A warning to viewers who don’t like mean spirited people whose every utterance is both brutally sarcastic and extremely profane (the language on this show will strip the paint off your walls) might just as well skip “VEEP” altogether. Seriously, go tune in the Hallmark Channel. For longtime fans this finale is a must-see for closure but for me it wasn’t as good as the earlier seasons.

So much fun!
Wickedly funny and possibly my favorite season of a show I faithfully watched for years. Julia Louis Dreyfuss is absolutely a treasure as the title character.

No Digital Copy
I unwrapped the plastic off the blu-ray case & found no promo code slip in the case… can’t seem to find it on the packaging anywhere… Guess it’s not “+ Digital.”

Can't Top the Political Cuts
There are many laugh out loud zingers, in this long series 1-7 that seems to me to skewer the left and the right equally, because both have playing to fickle voters as a common problem.
