very useful purchase
As a beginner - I have only written three stories so far - I find this book very helpful. It contains exercises to stimulate the imagination, and plenty of advice and information. It also tells one what not to do. It has advice on research for writers of fiction, and explains the various genres into which ones work might fall. I was pleased to find that I have a genre - it is magical realism. As I write only for my own enjoyment, the section on getting published is not relevant to me and I can't comment on it.I would certainly recommend this book.

A good investment
An excellent reference book. It is pragmatic in encouraging the reader to get on with it while also providing plenty of sections on the nuts-and-bolts of writing short stories. The style is easy and engaging with plenty of examples provided. Chapter summaries are very useful. Well worth the investment and a book I will return to on a regular basis.

One Of The Best How To Do Its.
Zoe Fairbairn is an established writer who knows what works and has obviously gone through the 'Blood, sweat and tears' process of creating fiction. there is nothing superfluous here.

Write Short Stories by Zoe Fairbairns: Invaluable
Fairbairns book told me lucidly, amusingly and in easy-to-follow steps how to write a short story. Most importantly, she told me how to get started,Georges Terroux

Liking it
Finding it useful, trying to do the exercises. Not as good as Stephen Fry on The Ode Less Travelled, which I recommend if you like poetry as well.

Write Winning Shorts -
I gave this 4/5 stars only because I haven't 'finished' it. But what I have read through, I've learned some very interesting ways of looking at a short, breaking it down and cleaning it up. I can only base a judgment on a book on my taste and views, and for myself, this book has been an extremely helpful guide and learning tool. I'm very glad I found it.

If you're New to Short Story Writing
If you're new to short story writing, this book is for you. It covers the basics of writing, expands upon the basics later in the book, and provides concrete examples, writing exercises, reading assignments and everything you need to get you started on your short story writing path. I think this book is meant to be read over a longer period of time, and should probably be treated like an at-home learning course. I highly recommend reading as many of the recommended short stories as possible and I definitely recommend tackling each of the writing exercises in the book, especially if you are brand new to writing short stories.
