This unit's primary used as an Electronic Muscle Stimulator (EMS) device. It sends electric signals at a non-painful frequency that activates your muscles, mimicking a massage.
It's secondary function is Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TENS) Device. While the EMS function is active, the massager sends stimulating pulses at a higher frequency that help prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. Tens devices also help stimulate your body to produce higher levels of its own natural painkillers, called "Endorphins".
The TENS ability of this device is an added function, but it is not the primary function of the device. The power of the TENS on this device is not strong enough to be compared with a standalone TENS device.
