Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes

Fast paced novella!
Julia Carroll was a beautiful nineteen year old, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Studying at the local college, not far from her family’s home, she also worked and wrote articles for the college paper, which she loved. Another missing girl led Julia to do some research on missing girls and what she found horrified her. As she pitched her idea to her editor, she was stunned at the comments from a colleague – and also the results.Julia had a happy family life – she was the eldest of the siblings and in part felt responsible for her sisters’ wellbeing. But living at the college dormitory gave her a sense of independence – she and her roommate had been best friends for a long time. Was Julia about to put herself in danger with her relentless and paranoid pursuit into the unsolved cases?Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes is a short story by author Karin Slaughter and is the prequel to Pretty Girls – both of which were released in 2015. Not as tension filled as Slaughter’s usual work, nonetheless this novella was fast paced, gripping and a quick, easy read. I’ve already read Pretty Girls and it blew me away. I thoroughly enjoy everything written by this author, and definitely recommend Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes to all fans plus lovers of the thriller genre.

Pretty Girls. Julia Caroll is a college student and ...
BLONDE HAIR, BLUE EYES, a short introduction by Karin Slaughter. The short story is an introduction to Slaughter’s upcoming novel, Pretty Girls. Julia Caroll is a college student and journalism major at the University of Georgia where her father is a professor. Julia is determined to write a story for the campus newspaper relating to the mysterious disappearance of a beautiful young fellow student, Beatrice Oliver. Very soon another “pretty girl” from the local homeless shelter disappears. Julia wants her article to project a strong warning to coeds of the potential for attacks and ways they can avoid the threat. In the process she forgets to heed her own advice as she walks home alone one night from a party.I was not enamored with the dialogue or the narration but after all, it is only an introduction to Slaughter’s new release. I rate the short story a 3.

This story convinced me to read more Karin Slaughter
Karin Slaughter is one of those authors whom I'm always hearing about but have yet to read. When I came across this digital short story, I thought it was time to sample her wares.Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes is a prequel to her novel Pretty Girls. A young woman goes missing in the college town of Athens, Georgia, and her description reminds Julia Carroll of herself: Nineteen, beautiful, blonde hair, blue eyes. Julia gradually becomes obsessed with the case and gets permission to write about it for her college paper.I really liked this short story. Instead of spelling out what readers are supposed to think and how they're supposed to feel, Slaughter merely leads us down the garden path, stopping to show us the flowers along the way. Our own imaginations supply the rest-- like the very real danger Julia is in. Julia, the typical teenager convinced of her own immortality....Will I be reading more works by Karin Slaughter? You'd better believe it!

Interesting Prequel
BLONDE HAIR, BLUE EYES by KARIN SLAUGHTERBlonde Hair, Blue Eyes is a prequel to her novel Pretty Girls.A young woman goes missing in the college town of Athens, Georgia, and her description reminds Julia Carroll of herself: Nineteen, beautiful, blonde hair, blue eyes. Julia gradually becomes obsessed with the case and gets permission to write about it for her college paper.Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes is not as suspenseful or mysterious as most of this author's books have been.. but it is still a really good read. Karin Slaughter knows how to write and she drew me in from the very first line.

Okay-But It's Been Said Better
Karin Slaughter's main character, Julia Carroll, is a Georgia college student who [spoiler alert] "disappears" (is abducted) while investigating other women who disappeared recently from the same area. The story, ultimately, concerns the horror of how the story's narrator suddenly vanishes from her family and the agony the disappearance causes and will cause long into the future.Okay, but the very same story was told far more effectively in Allison Burnett's "Undiscovered Gyrl" (2009). I recommend this novel in place of "Blonde . . . Blue."

Insightful and a touch scary.
A short story viewed almost entirely in stream-of-consciousness from inside the head of 19-year-old-college student, Julia. Her fears, ambitions, self-doubt, friendships, sisters -- all are touched on while she puzzles the disappearance of several young, beautiful women in her town. As a features writer on the university's newspaper she wants to interview people who knew these young women and write a front-page story. Seems to be a lead in to Ms. Slaughter's book "Pretty Girls." I appreciated the insight into this student, however so much "telling" rather than doing became tiresome for me.

Good prequel but a little over priced
After finishing Pretty Girl I went straight to read this as it’s the short story prequel.Reading this makes Pretty Girls even more tragic after we get to know Julia as a person rather than Julia the murdered daughter. The story tells us of Julia, we get to know her personality, her traits and likes and dislikes.Well worth a read and personally I don’t think it matters if you read this before or after Pretty Girls.

A great teaser of a short story from Karin Slaughter
I am a huge Karin Slaughter fan. I usually read her Will Trent/Sara Clinton series, but was intrigued to read something different from my favourite author.Blonde hair, blue eyes, is a prequel to the latest novel pretty girls, and it builds up the tension nicely meaning you get to to the end and just have to know what happens next. So much so that as soon as I had finished this short story, I ordered the full length novel. Just shows what a great writer Ms Slaughter is that she can whet your appetite ready for the main event. The story is about Julia, a beautiful blonde haired, blue eyed college freshman training to be a journalist. Beautiful girls are being abducted from the streets, and disappearing without a trace, far to close to home for Julia's liking. Instead of enjoying her time at college, she is nervous about what is happening right under her nose. She is determined to find out what has happened to these girls, so that they don't just become another statistic. You really start to get a feel for these characters, get involved in their lives and feel their emotions. This is quite a tough and very real subject.I enjoyed this book from start to finish and it really picked up pace right towards the end, I am looking forward to reading pretty girls.

short but sweet
I love Karin Slaughter. So this short story was a great surprise, it even carries an excerpt of her new book Pretty Girls is here,This short story is a prelude to Pretty Girls.Julia Carroll is a journalism student and she finds herself drawn to a story about another 19 year old student who has the same features as she has - blonde hair and blue eyes. and she has been missing for about 5 weeks. She wants to write about this, but she begins to obsess over it, taking herself deeper into danger..This is an introduction to Julia who is missing from Pretty Girls, and it made me want to read it immediately after I had finished this.A fantastic short read and I am sure if you read this, you will want to read her next book

Nothing Special
I didn't realize how short this 'book' was. I kinda feel like I was robbed. The story itself is a prequel to 'pretty Girls' which I have to say I DID enjoy reading. I felt that this book would perhaps appeal to a very young reader (a teenager). It lacked substance in my opinion and the main character seemed to be very one dimensional......just too perfect. Perfectly beautiful. perfectly kind. perfectly caring. Hugely intelligent. Is anyone THAT perfect? I don't think so, but maybe I am just cynical. I give this short story 3 stars because it was fairly readable in its own small way........but nothing special.
