This My Other Bag (MOB) is a fun parody of luxury handbags, and it is even better because it now comes with a great backstory: Louis Vuitton attempted to use trademark and copyright law to get these products pulled, even though parodies are generally legally permissible. The district court judge threw out the lawsuit in January 2016, stating that Louis Vuitton "is perhaps unfamiliar with the 'my other car' trope. Or maybe it just cannot take a joke" and noting that "the fact that Louis Vuitton at least does not find the comparison funny is immaterial; Louis Vuitton's sense of humor (or lack thereof) does not delineate the parameters of its rights (or MOB's rights) under trademark law." This decision was affirmed by the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled in December 2016, which agreed that "a parody of LV's luxury image is the very point of MOB's plebian product" and noting the "entertainment conveyed by juxtaposing the irreverent representation of the trademark with the idealized image created by the mark's owner."
