Live: Reach Up And Touch The Sky

A great live album from a seminal New Jersey band. I used to have this on LP, but lost it somewhere along the way over the years. I'm glad to have it back! The only thing this CD is lacking is the song "Stagger Lee", which I assume may have been cut for running time reasons on the CD.

I owned this on vinyl and was extremely let down to see that one of the best and longest ( Stagger Lee) tunes is missing on the CD version . . . but I guess Corporate Stupidity rules eternal. . . I bought this CD because it was cheaper than buying it on iTunes (which also deletes "Stagger Lee") . . . . it's a rocking good time by one of the best party bands of its era . .I was lucky enough to see Southside live in 1985 and it was a blast . . .

If you've listened to and followed Springsteens' development, you cannot be a stranger to his 'soul brother,' Southside Johnny. This was in my LP collection for years and I played the s### out of it.Finally added the CD to my bookshelf.The one critique I had was the rushed quality of some of his performances.Still love it and it is still one of my top ten favorite live albums.

I seen the Jukes in the late 70's or early 80's.Can't remember exactly.I do remember they were great and played pretty much everything on this record at the show.The only thing that could improve on this live album would be a re-release.The record company should remaster this album,restore its original packaging into a 2cd digipak with maybe some bonus tracks.Then it would really POP!

Terrible album. Band seems like they are just pushing through it. Sound quality is nonexistent. Live in Cleveland is much better.

It's SOUTHSIDE! What could be bad.

I had this on 8 track years ago ,saw it on amazon an decided to get the cd,glad i did. songs such as restless hart, vertigo ,i had forgotten about since i never hear them. I like them then and i still do,they still sound great. great versions of hearts of stone, trapped again, talk to me,i'm so anxious and some sam cooke covers make this a good cd. if you like southside and don't have this ,its worth your while. great price from amazon.

this cd shows why southside johnny is a great live performer. Sam Cooke songs are top notch Bring it on home to me is my fave.The female back-up singer on that song is sublime. talk to me and hearts of stone are classics. Missed stagger lee from the vinylbut other than that a really fine array of johnny and the jukes talents. would give any novice a taste of this fine band. highly recommended

1981 erschien das Live Album von Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes. Da ist es für mich schon verwunderlich, dass ein derartig tolles Album bislang bei Amazon keine Rezension erhalten hat. Auf Southside Johnny wurde ich im Oktober 1979 erstmals aufmerksam. Damals trat er mit seiner Band im der 5. Rockpalast - Nacht in der Grugahalle in Essen auf. Ein wahnsinnig tolles Konzert lieferte er damals ab. Und ähnlich stark sind diese Aufnahmen aus unterschiedlichen Auftritten aus dem Jahre 1980. Southside Johnnys musikalische Verbindung zu Bruce Springsteen ist unverkennbar und ist bei jedem Ton des Albums hör- und spürbar. Bruce Springsteen ist denn auch der Komponist folgender Songs:- Talk To Me- Hearts Of Stone- Trapped Again- The FeverAußerdem gibt es noch einen Song von Steve Van Zandt und zwar "I Don't Want To Go Home". Des weiteren sind noch einige Cover Versions von Sam Cocke zu hören. Auf dem Album "Better Days" von Southside Johnny sind die drei sogar mit dem Song "It's A Long Time" zu hören. Southside Johnny stand allerdings immer im Schatten vom Boss. "Reach Up And Touch The Sky" ist aber ein Beweis für die tolle Livemusik des Southside Johnny und seinen Asbury Jukes. Zu hören ist kraftvolle Rockmusik, die hervorragend von einer Bläsersection unterstützt und nicht nur begleitet wird. Hier ist der Spaß an der Musik zu hören und zu genießen!!! Ein sehr empfehlenswertes Livealbum!

An der Schallplatte hatte mich trotz der tollen Songs immer die schlechte Dynamik gestört. Nachdem ich im Frühjahr Southside Johnny in Köln Live erleben durfte und von der Band begeistert war, habe ich mir die CD zugelegt. Und jetzt bin ich rundum zufrieden!
