Can this microphone be used as an external microphone for a 2019 Macbook pro?

Yes, it can be used as an external mic for a Mac book pro. That is what I have used it for and it’s very easy to use. I have to warn you, though, that if you are trying to use it for anything other than right in front of you, it doesn’t work well. I tried to use it in a room to better pick up several voices in the same room for zoom calls on the Omni setting. The mic was no more than 8- 10 feet from people. My internal mic on my Macbook does a far superior job for this type of situation than this mic. But if you are just recording yourself directly in front of the mic, it’s great and easy to use with a MacBook.

Is the Aux jack for input or output? Can you input background music from an audio device?

In the sale page it is listed as an input, but if you read it over a few times it mentions "and a 3.5mm AUX input for real-time listening with zero latency." You do not listen from an input. In the manual from the manufacturer's web site I read, "3.5MM AUX OUTPUT" so it is a way to listen to what you are saying without any latency. I hope that helps. If you are looking to add background music or sound, there are many Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software programs to combine tracks for background.

an you mount this to a boom microphone stand?

Yes. I purchased a boom and use it instead of the tripod stand. Works great. I bought the InnoGear Microphone Arm.
