Back to The Future - Back in Time: If it was too easy it wouldn't be fun
What a great game. Easily 5 stars. Our 9 year old loves it and can't wait until we play the next game. The theme and production quality are top notch, except in our case 3 of the plastic characters pieces (Jennifer, George, and Lorraine) are leaning to one side noticeably - but does not affect play of the game. There is a strategy aspect to the game where each character's ability, moves and rolls MUST be optimized. This requires discussion and planning with your teammates. If the the character's strengths at the start of the game aren't leveraged (for example, at the start Marty can roll two blue dice and has the ability to move Lorraine towards him), it is very hard to win. It is also critical to join forces with other characters sharing the same square to improve the chances of successfully winning a challenge. You have to cooperate and plan with each other. Yes sometimes the dice go against you but the fun is trying to overcome it rather than looking to fix something that isn't broken. Before blaming the dice, I suggest approaching each loss as an opportunity to learn from mistakes and consider what to try differently next time. This game is challenging as cooperative games should be. I've read other reviews complain that Biff comes up too often or house rules are needed. I completely disagree. Luck is a factor in this game with the dice roll, however I don't see the fun in a game that is easy to win. We've played about 10 times and have won twice. Both times the victory came on the last player's turn before 10:04 pm. Both times we cheered and high-fived each other. It was thrilling and we excitedly talked about what happened during the game that got us to victory. This is the experience I want from a great co-op board game. We've also had the game end early because of rolling Biffs and the picture fading away. Yes, we complain bitterly how Biff wouldn't give us a break and then we eagerly set up for the next game to try again. I suppose if you can't stand to lose then this game may not be fun for you. This game is no different than other co-op games like Pandemic, Forbidden Desert, etc - you're going to lose more than win, even more so if you don't play together as a team.

A Little Tough to Beat...But That's What Makes it Fun!
We really enjoyed this game a lot! It took a little bit to get the swing of it, and there are probably still a few unanswered questions with the rules, but as a fan of BTTF, this is an awesome game that incorporates the movie into the game play. It is a little hard to beat, depending on how many players you have and which characters you use, but I think the fact that it is a little challenging is what makes it fun! Highly recommended for any BTTF and board game enthusiast!

You will love this game win or lose!
I am a huge fan of both Back to the Future, and table top board gaming. I am no stranger to games that are made out of an existing franchise. Sometimes it is done very poorly, and sometimes it is done well. This game does a good job! When you turn a story into a game. You have to capture the essence, while not making it a boring game. It can't be too word for word the movie, and it can't stray too far from the source material. It is clever to have Einstein and Jennifer join the group so you can have a 4 player game, and not have it restricted to 2 (Marty and Doc). Unique abilities with each player make replay a must. The randomness of the challenges, and perks you can acquire can really make the game a nail biter. Our first play through it was down the wire.... and we lost! I still had so much fun. The board is a very cute representation of Hill Valley, even complete with pop up clocktower that doubles has a dice tower!!!! So well thought out. I love that as you continue to fail your main objectives, the iconic family photo begins to show Mary's family disappearing in a clever way. The components are nice, the Delorean is detailed, the character models are unique. This game has a great art style that is it's own but pays a good homage to the artistic direction of the movies themselves. AND I CAN'T FORGET The rule book is disguised as the comic Tales from Space featured in the film! Even the board has a nice visual queue when opening for the first time as you get a nice shot of the flux capacitor. All in all this game is fun to play, follows the narrative well, and is a great cooperative experience for you and your friends/family. Working together is what makes this game great!

Great light family Coop, but still a good challenge
Good family coop strategy game, similar to horrified, ET(also by Funko), pandemic. You always feel like you need to get things done and are behind, but in a good way. The production is great for this price point and it's very thematic. Tie it in with the movie and make a night of it. It's not an easy first win, Rodney Smith has a good video, same yourself some time and watch that in YouTube, the rule could seem daunting to people new to board games, but it's very thorough and looks like the comic book from the movie. Great for kids, families and fans of the movie, not another IP stealing trash board game, another great interpretation by Funko and Prospero hall (sad to see them shuttered and funk not producing any more games)

Great art. Fun mechanics. Deceptively difficult!
We bought this for our 8 year old who is a big Back to the Future fan. Upon opening the game, we were impressed by the quality of the components and artwork. The designers have done a really nice job of balancing the game and making it challenging to win. The mechanics take awhile to get used to, the main thing just being the order of things happening during a turn. Admittedly the game is designed for 10 and up but if your child is a strong reader and has patience, this could work for them as well so long as there's someone a little older to help with the rules. We're really enjoying the game thus far even though we have yet to win!

Difficult to win, but dang is it immersive!
This game is best for super fans of the Back to the Future series. It takes some readying (and maybe even YouTube) to fully understand the instructions of the game. That is ok though because once you play a couple times you get the hang of it. The details of the gameplay objectives and possible events/outcomes makes it feel like this is possibly how it could have happened in the movie. Every roll of the dice, card drawn, and decision made puts you in Doc, Marty, Jennifer, or Einstein's shoes as you try to defeat Biff and prepare the time machine for travel, all the while making sure George and Loraine fall in love. When your group finishes the game, a victory feels like a real accomplishment and the defeats normally come with a lesson of why and encourage you to change your strategy for the next game. That all being said, this game is hard to win. I mean REALY hard. There are so many parts that rely on dice rolls to be successful and the probability is not always good. Even the most sound strategy can fail or drag the game out to over an hour simply because the dice are not rolling the way you want them too. This may be fixed most easily with some kind of House Rule that limits how much they can hurt you or even change the rules for re-rolling. Another unique factor is that this game is cooperative and not played against each other. All players are on the same team trying to beat Biff and the clock and that works a different brain muscle than versus board games do. Most of the fun comes from the nostalgia though, so if you are not a big fan of the movies, there are plenty of other games to get your fix. If you are a big fan though, this game may be a must-have so that you can get the experience of helping Marty and the gang in their adventure in 1955.

A Tad on the Too Challenging Side
*Please note this review is the 2 player experience only* The game has some pretty nice components. I liked the extra touches such as the McFly family photo and the instructions looking like the comic book that George McFly is reading in the movie. I really like the comic art style that they incorporated. There are no screen grabs or pictures from the movie, but the style is true enough to the actors depiction that you will have no doubt recognizing any of them. I did like the cardboard clock tower, but we stopped using it as a dice tower because it didn't do a very good job rolling them when we would drop them through and they would often get stuck. The instructions are pretty well written so if you follow along as you read them, you shouldn't have much trouble getting going. There is a web address in the instructions to a video that explains how to play if you're not clear after reading them. The problem begins when you play the game. All players work towards the same goals: get George and Lorraine to fall in love, collect parts around town for the Delorean, and move it into position all before lighting strikes the clock tower. While doing this you are completing opportunities to gain extra power tiles and helpful items and trying to keep Marty's parents away from Biff. There are different turn amounts depending on the number of players and no matter what it always seems like there is not enough turns to accomplish everything that needs to be done before the game ends. On every playthrough we get pretty close, but we run out of time without accomplishing all of the goals or the picture of Marty and his siblings completely disappears. The biggest problem outside of the limited turns seems to be the "Trouble Cards" you are required to lay every so often. Some of them are way too powerful (the ones that allows Biff to move the Delorean backwards or keep George and Lorraine locked in their houses are particularly annoying) and some of them are really hard to throw the right dice to remove their effects. There's so much else that you must do just to try and win that having to stop to potentially waste three dice on attempting to remove the effects of a trouble card is really frustrating. I would say about 7 times out of 10 the attempts fail. Biff also is allowed to move way too much. Not only does he almost always move when you are required to move Marty's parents, but whenever you roll a die, you run the risk of rolling his face and moving him again. (And if you get that trouble card that allows one biff face to count as two, well, you've probably just lost the game.) I'm sure some of these annoyances could be alleviated by removing some of the cards from the deck before playing, but then what's the point? And truth be told, the last time we played we cheated quit a bit (the dice hit the board, I get to reroll LOL) and we STILL LOST. I am wondering if the game is easier with three or four players. Maybe with more people working together the goals become a bit more manageable. I can not speak to this though because I've never played with more than two players. I would only recommend this to a die hard fan of the movie and even then I would caution them against paying full price for it. I love the Back to the Future movies and the concept of the game is great. The execution leaves something to be desired unfortunately.

Back to the Future in a Box!
Sure, my headline is the most cliche, clickbaity thing you can think of. However, I truly feel transported into the movie when I am playing this game. This coop board game will get you and your friends and/or families high-fiving when you complete a challenge, but flipping the table when Biff comes over and messes you up. The lovely designers of Prospero Hall have knocked it out of the park with this one. I have played Jaws before and knew when I saw this new release that they would do the IP justice. I had just watched the movie a few weeks before playing the game so my Back to the Future fervor was at an all-time high. First off, the game is pretty simple to learn. Your character has several "power tiles" at the start which tell you what you can do on your turn. On all the starter ones, you can either move or use a dice in a "challenge." You'll be running around the board trying to gather parts for the Delorean and ensuring Lorraine and George stay in love before time runs out. What's not to love? Well, good ole Biff is running around trying to ruin your plans. And oh man, if you hated him in the movies, you'll hate him even more in this game. Everything you do, he is there ready to reverse anything you've done. Whenever you do a challenge which typically involves helping George and Lorraine or trying to pick up the parts, you can roll "Biffs" on the dice which will move him towards George and/or Lorraine. When he gets to their spot, he will drop their love on the love meter. You need to keep this high but he will be constantly lowering over and over again. I don't want to go over all the rules, but I'll say for the price, the components are really good. The art on the cards is not just movie stills, but instead are custom images made for the game. I haven't assembled the Clock Tower dice tower since I heard it is a little fragile, but everything else is great quality. Pick this up if you are a Back to the Future fan!

Excellent game
The game sure requires coordination from all the players in order to win. Really love it though. The figurines are rich in detail but not painted. If you enjoy painting minis, you can make them really come to live. (you can play without painting them).
