Mokele-Mbembe: Fact or Fiction? (Creature Scene Investigation)

This is a great investigation into the possible continued existence of the little, elephant-sized dinosaur the Mokele-Mbembe (MM). Though MM is of great interest to cryptozoologist, very little has been written about it. The few books that are available are pretty much all accounts of individual MM search expeditions. Mokele-Mbembe Fact or Fiction? examines the mystery as a whole and tries to make sense of it. Potential readers should be aware, however, that the book is part of the teen series Creature Scene Investigation. So, while it is an excellent book, it is relatively short and contains lots of information about non-cryptozoology things (like the extinction of the dinosaurs) so that its teen readers can be brought up to speed about basic information.The best part of the book are the synopses of the various MM search expeditions. Detailed accounts of the 2 Mackal expeditions, the Regusters expedition, and the Agnagna expedition are included, as are shorter accounts of the Nugent, O’Hanlon, and CryptoSafari expeditions. This is an excellent compendium of the investigations and one that is very difficult to obtain elsewhere. While several expeditions published books about their adventures, most of the data come from articles published in the journal Cryptozoology. This journal is long out of print and is exceptionally hard to find (I was fortunate enough to come across copies while I was working at the University of Hawaii. Few, if any other, libraries have accessible copies of it). What emerges is an interesting mix of observations, anecdotes, and hearsay that really suggests that an unknown animal may live in remote areas of the Congo.I strongly recommend Mokele-Mbembe Fact or Fiction? to anyone interested in cryptozoology. Not only is it a good read, but currently it is your only option for a reasoned assessment of the MM mystery.

A good book on this interesting, controversial, and speculative topic. This book offers interesting info on geology, zoology, biology, and of the mystery creatures of coarse. The book is fun, easy to read, and well researched (as well as a topic like this can be researched). I would be interesting in buying more from this authors series.
