A WOMAN AHEAD OF HER TIME
A marvelous, comprehensive biography of a remarkable woman who was pioneer in depth psychology and freedom from women to think for themselves and make their own choices, often in the face of tradition or convention.Ms. Livingstone made it clear that even though Lou Salome was influenced by greats like Freud and Rilke, she influenced them as much as they did her, and she was able to incorporate all she learned from them into her own passionate life-affirming philosophy. I highly recommend this fine work.

Serviceable biography
This does a great job of outlining the events in Lou’s life alongside reviews of her writings. A good introduction. I would love to know more about her meeting with Wedekind, (‘with whom she spent a lot of time’). It has been suggested that she was an inspiration for his character Lulu in Pandora’s Box but, given her celibacy for the first thirty or so years of her life, it seems a strange idea to me. Certainly, she believed strongly in sex outside of marriage so that sexual relations are not a commitment that binds you. Anyway, a great read. Recommended.
