P-38 Lightning at War, Part 2 (Mini Topcolors) Paperback – February 28, 2013

These KAGERO book offerings from Poland are absolutely outstanding for the aviation historian and aircraft buff; but they are solid gold for the plastic model builder! Text is minimal, the book being more a monograph. English and Polish languages are present. The covers are glossy stiff card enclosing 16 pages of full color profile views of eight aircraft, in this case the Lockheed P-38 Lightning of WWII fame. Eight different aircraft get two pages dedicated to each color scheme, showing side profiles and scrap views of top and bottom and center fuselage "pod" as masked by the engine booms. Very complete descriptive images of all paint and insignia. These featured airplanes mostly have never graced the pages of any previous publications, and many, I suspect, have emerged from attic photo collections of WWII P-38 pilots and crews. Photos of the pictured airplanes are also presented, and the front page of the book holds a collage of WWII color photos of a featured aircraft that has the most photograps in evidence. For these facts and features alone, the book is worth the attention of the buyer. These books go beyond the typical basic profile monograph of an aircraft in that along with the book the reader/buyer receives a full, complete set of decal markings for each of the aircraft featured! Eight P-38s. In the three popular plastic model scales of 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32. All nose art (in no way censored) in full color, just as it appeared on the actual P-38 is represented in beautiful Cartograf waterslide decals. The national insignia and minor aircraft stenciling are all the builder needs to supply from the commercial plastic kit being built or commercial aftermarket decal sheets. These must be seen to be appreciated. As a modeler, I see these decals as the true selling point of the publication, but add in the quality research and presentation, and you've got a winner, across the board! These will be in hobby shops at $25 t0 $30 each, and will sell out. Amazon offers a good price if you can stand to wait for the rapid delivery! I'll be writing a review of Volume 1 when it arrives, as the publications were offered out of sequence, and said review will simply send you to this review as both books are equal in quality.

I admit it...I am a big fan of this series and have several others. This one did not disappoint. If you have an interest in the plane and build scale models, this is well worth the price.

Very good markings for the Revell and Trumpeter kits. I appreciate the E and G earlier variant to use with the Grey Matter Figure conversion in 1/32nd scale.

Schönes Buch mit Decals der drei gängigen Maßstäbe. Schöne Farbprofile mit Infos über das Vorbild, preislich sehr gut wenn man bedenkt was Decals sonst so kosten. Einziger Kritikpunkt, man hätte auf dem Bogen noch die Hoheitszeichen mit beifügen können.

Very good publishing. Pictures very detailed and decals printed from cartograf in Turin Italy. A must for p-38 fans and modelers. Decals in 1/72 1/48 1/32 scales
