When my wife saw this toaster, she just said, “Buy it!” I don’t know if it was the cool retro green, the one slot design or the side view window. Obeying, I did. That was six years of toasting ago. I admit, it was a leap of faith buying a toaster without the familiar wire heating elements. How are two radiant heat tubes at the bottom supposed to toast evenly? Amazingly, they do. As with any toaster, there is a learning curve. The designers assume two pieces of bread or one large slice will be toasted. The pop-up spring is calibrated for that assumption, therefore weight. Anything less, then expect to catch your toast. Similarly, when toasting low and long slices like some artisan breads, after popping up, I’m looking at it well below the rim. An extra lift feature would help. Dana loves her bagels browned on both sides. I may be a bit Labrador retriever. My mouth is far too tender to crack both sides of a bagel to get to the a Lucious spread on top. I love the option to toast a bagel on just one side. We admit, we have never used, nor needed, the Reheat or Defrost selection. Reviewing the most often return issues. After five years of service, and probably near the lifespan of a kitchen counter appliance, our toaster developed a common malady. It wouldn’t stay down, nor toast. Being curious and a little handy, I dismantled our toaster expecting it to be a post-mortem. Many burned bread crumbs removed later, it is working as good as new. Never noticed one side darker than the other. Ejects too aggressively is discussed above. We’ve had no side view glass issues. As for durability, I can’t seem to get more than five years out of a $1,000 computer nor a $40,000 car. Why would I expect a $50 toaster to last longer? $10/year value and still counting. Dana and I got our moneys-worth and it still looks good as new.

We have only had this for 5 days, but we love it. My 12 year old's favorite food is toast. Y'all, I wish I was making this up, but I'm not, it really is his favorite food. He eats toast nearly everyday. Our old 4 slice toaster that we have had since before he was born finally had to be tossed. While said 12 year old wanted me to buy a touch screen toaster that was more than $300, I said no, and showed him this baby. He wasn't impressed but liked that it had a window so that he could make sure his toast was the correct shade. With the approval of the toast kid, I bought it (I would have bought it regardless of his opinion.) Toast kid waited 2.5 days for a toaster, and surprisingly he was patient. Upon the big day of arrival, he shouted "The toaster comes today, I call being the first one to use it." His siblings didn't care if they were last, they do not share his same passion for toast. Our delivery came earlier than usual, at 10:30 am. My 10 year old brought it inside where I unpacked it and plugged it. The 12 year old toast dude came slinking out of his room upon hearing on the Alexa that a package has arrived. He grabbed a slice of bread, and toasted it, adjusting the knob to what he felt would be the right shade of toast. It wasn't, so he pushed the lever back down and twisted the dial more while carefully watching the bread as it toasted through the window. It was finally to his satisfaction and he pushed the cancel button and delightedly yoinked his treasure out of the toaster slot. He proceeded to slather cream cheese and jam on it and happily eat his toast. Then he made another, and another and happily went through a loaf of bread by himself. He still hasn't said whether he likes the toaster, but he ate an entire loaf of bread on the first day we got it, so I think that speaks loudly. He has used the toaster everyday, multiple times a day since. Other members of our family has also used it, my 10 year old likes it, and loves that the glass comes out easily to clean (I have weird kids.) My 15 and 17 year olds have used it, but they normally communicate in sarcasm and grunts. Nothing has been sarcastically said about the toaster and I have yet been able to decode their grunts. They use it though, so I would assume they like it well enough. I like the toaster, like my 10 year old, I like that the glass comes out for easy cleaning. The crumb tray is easy to clean too. The toaster is easy to use and self explainitory. It looks nice on the countertop, but is easy to store if you store yours. I like that I can easily toast a slice of sourdough bread without having to cut the slice in half to fit in the toaster. Update: It's January 2025, the original review was in July 2023. The toaster is still doing great. Toast Kid hates it though. He doesn't like that it doesn't produce a consistant product every single time. I have explained that it won't if you make 8 pieces of toast one right after the other, not allowing the toaster to cool. He tries to convince me to get a different toaster often. Toast kid's opinion aside, it still works great. There is 1 caviot though, sometimes sourdough bread or homemade bread will break off in the toaster, but the broken off pieces will burn onto the heating element. It's not easy to clean the heating element, but can be done. Honestly, I still don't have any complaint with this toaster. I still recommend it. Oh and even though Toast kid "doesn't like" this toaster he still uses it multiple times every single day.

I have been researching toasters for what seems like an eternity to replace our 5 year old Walmart toaster that has finally given up even pretending to toast bread. The standard wire filament heating elements don't even glow anymore. After considerable thought I stretched my budget and bought the Breville A bit More toaster. What a huge disappointment. Uneven toasting at a high price point. Returned. I then came across this Dash Clear View toaster. We are just a family of two and sometimes, but not often toast 2 slices of bread at a time, but typically just one. And I'm a bread baker so my loaves are not the typical square slices found in plastic bags at the grocery store. The Dash Clear View offered 2 things that I found particularly interesting. The single very wide slot and a different type of heating element. The wide slot allows for 2 standard sandwich bread slices or 1 wider, artisan type slice. And the other feature I appreciate is the window. Some people say it's a gimmick, but for me it's a useful feature allowing me to monitor the doneness of my toast. Sure the glowing heating elements create an orange light, (which looks spectacular during late night toasting sessions) but the browning of the bread can be clearly monitored despite the color of the light. The toaster has 7 levels of toastiness and I find myself using 5-5.5 for my homemade whole wheat bread which gives it a slightly darker than "golden toast" color. The results are impressive, especially compared to the 2x more expensive and highly touted Breville. Evenly toasted on both sides of the bread. Here is where I had to give the Dash Clear View 4 stars instead of 5. I wish the slots were I little deeper. My loaves measure 4.5 to 5 inches tall and, at 5 inches, the top of the bread does not submerge deep enough into the toaster for 100% full toasting coverage. The slices that measure 4.5 inches toast wonderfully but a slot just a little deeper would provide better results. For people roasting standard sandwich bread, English muffins or bagels this is not an issue at all. Full toasting coverage. In conclusion, I am enjoying great toast from a toaster that works great and looks good too at a price point I can live with. And Dash offers a 2 year warranty when you register the toaster with them online. We've had very good luck with other Dash products ( egg cooker and waffle iron) and I hope the Clear View toaster will serve us well for years to come.

You may not be interested in researching toasters. Growing up we had great toasters. They did a reasonable job of toasting bread, and lasted for decades. When I started out on my own, I had the perfect toaster. Made by a German company, it used quartz infrared lamps instead of Nichrome wire coils. It may have lasted for decades, but my children accidentally damaged it beyond repair (doing something incorrectly, they did not understand). I tried to buy one like it, but it was no longer available. I bought a mid-priced toaster at a department store, and was disappointed. Not great, and did not last. Then I bought a $12 toaster on Amazon, that was better than the mid-priced toaster. I still use it at a remote cabin, but it is too small for artisan bread. I did my research. There were under $100 toasters that despite looking different, were in reality, similar Asian imports. There were a few premium toasters, well over $100, that got mixed reviews. A few models of toasters being sold, caught on fire. Some commercial models seemed better, but tended to be too large. I used a toaster oven for a while, which worked well if you gave it your undivided attention. I almost bought a commercial conveyor type toaster. I don't remember how I found this Dash toaster, but when I found out it used quartz infrared lamps (like my old favorite) I was interested. I researched Dash, and found out the company was started by ambitious Americans. I decided to buy it. I have been happy enough with it, to buy another one for our second house. Works on homemade artisan bread, and it works on commercial soft bread. Bagel mode is perfect. It just takes a little experience to learn where to set the dial for different products. The outside glass is removable for cleaning. The inside glass and metal reflectors cannot be cleaned (as near as I can tell). That has not been a problem for us, but if you put chocolate chip cookies, slices of pizza, or similar messy foods in it, you will have a problem before too long. Setting a reasonable budget for my everyday use toaster, this is the best I have found, and I looked for a long time. Single long slot, with a nice viewing window. Accommodates oversize single slices, or two standard loaf slices. The case has not been hot enough to burn me. The metal on top, surrounding the bread slot, gets hot enough to burn your fingers. Usual crumb tray on the bottom, is removable to empty. It does not look bad, but it won't pass for an ostentatious prestige appliance, if that is important to you.

Great toaster. Stylish and toasts more evenly than any toaster I've owned before. It is slower at toasting, however. I remember reading one review that mentioned the red glow of the heating elements making it not possible to tell how brown the bread had gotten. That's not really true - your eye gets good at identifying the change in color, even if it can't tell the absolute color. The first unit I received was defective - it would not stay in the engaged position - but they replaced it without hesitation and the second unit works great. Would buy again.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for myself and have used it approximately twice a day since I received it. Once in the morning and once again in the evening. I am the only person in my household so I don't believe I am over using it. Likes: - Stylish (if that counts) - Top rated by "America's Test Kitchen" (why I bought it to begin with) - Window to watch the "show" - Am considering using it to "eject" clay pigeons at the local shooting club! Given the range and height of the English muffins it throws in the air I have no doubt it should be able to launch a similarly sized clay disc to a respectable height and distance! - The "window" provides a nice bit of anticipatory elegance as I wait for my toast to be launched at sufficient velocity as to achieve a low orbit in my apartment. - The "crumb" tray is easy to remove and functions admirably in catching whatever debris is left after the device has launched my breakfast. - The sound of the "launch" itself is a satisfying "thunk" that resonates quite clearly throughout my apartment. I am wondering if I could train the birds to fly past my balcony to catch, in mid flight, each mornings offerings? Assuming of course that they are not molten cinders. Dislikes - Of the "7" different settings of "done-ness" on the dial, mine only has two that actually do anything. "1" = does nothing or "7" = create your own charcoal. While this last setting is handy if I were looking to create briquettes for my barbecue it is less than optimal for toast or English muffins in the morning. Everything setting between these two numbers (2-6) only differentiates between how "raw" the bread is when it is ejected or how close to being complete charcoal it is. - It has, on more than one occasion, managed to launch whatever it was toasting up, and over, the raised countertop located behind itself. It is quite amusing to see a smoking, charcoal puck, soaring through my apartment in the morning while I watch in amusement. Perhaps I could interest Elon Musk or NASA in using this device to eject manned space capsules in case of emergency? Probably not as the extension cord for using it for that purpose would probably weigh too much. - The "window" provides a nice bit of anticipatory elegance as I wait for my toast to be launched at sufficient velocity as to achieve a low orbit in my apartment. All in all it makes an excellent breakfast launching device that is perfectly capable of turning even the most sublime piece of bread into a wholly inedible chunk of charcoal at the turn of a knob and the push of a lever. As far as a toaster though, I think I can do better with something that costs less. On the good side however, I think I am a sure thing to win the "pumpkin chunking" contest this fall with my device!

This toaster is very well made. It toasts evenly and I like that you can watch it toast. I haven’t had any problems with the toast popping up out of it. The retro style looks beautiful and the narrow size fits nicely on my counter. I had a great toaster for a long time. When it died I went through several toasters that were basically junk. They didn’t toast evenly or well enough and even felt cheap. This is absolutely worth the money! Don’t hesitate to buy it!

Let’s be real, we are talking about a toaster, a TOASTER! Why should anyone want to write a review of the most used and easiest to forget ancillary appliance you own? Because the Dash Clear View Toaster is that awesome! The short of it; don’t waste your time looking for anything else. This toaster can handle anything you throw at it with golden brown perfection, quickly. The Dash Clear View Toaster is the best bang for your buck, hands down! The long of it. We are a “somewhat” healthy eating family. We run the gambit when it comes to bread choices. Hardly ever white, mostly wheat for the kids, and tapioca and/or rice bread for the adults. Not all breads toast to perfection at the same rate. Each one of these breads has a very specific heat tolerance that can make for difficult toasting times. And that’s where the window really comes in handy. With the Dash Clear View Toaster you can sit back and enjoy the toasting experience all while watching the progress through its’ front window. Gone are the days of premature toast ejection just to check on the “doneness” of a specific bread only to have to reinsert the payload back into the heated bay. Visible perfection each and every time. With the white or Tapioca bread, which toast rather quickly, a quick turn to 4 gives us the perfect amount of crunch. The wheat bread takes slightly longer, about a 5 to a 5.5 max. And then there is the ALWAYS FROZEN rice bread. This beast of a bread (Food for Life brand) is twice toasted. Once as a 7 with “defrost” selected and a second plunge at a 7 without the “defrost” selected. AMAZING! The controls are easy to understand, clearly marked and simple to operate. Plug it in, place the toast in the slot provided, push down the plunger and away you go. It takes a matter of a use or two to figure out the proper settings to your liking. The “defrost” feature just doubles the time on the dial. The “bagel” feature only toasts on one side. With some sandwich breads like rye / pumpernickel etc. that have a tendency to toast really well and tear-up the roof of your mouth I like to use the bagel setting. Put the toasted side to the inside (meat side) and the soft untoasted side to the outside, you get the crunch without tearing up the roof of your mouth. AWESOMNESS! I have yet to use the “re-heat” feature … so you are on your own with that one. Sorry Charlie. As far as the toast rocketing from the toaster with the velocity of an unladen swallow, African or Eurpean – doesn’t matter, I have found that to be inconsequential. Does it pop up and sometime flop out on its own? Yes, rarely. But that has happened with my old toaster as well (a re-gifted 2 slice Panasonic that we got as a wedding gift 22 years ago). So really I kind of like the nostalgia of it when it does happen. BONUS! Let’s just hope that I get 22 years out of this amazing beast. So in conclusion, I just wrote an essay on a toaster. I incorrectly assumed that being sold on amazon.co.uk, this would work okay here in Blighty, but no; 120v only. I don't fancy using a bulky step down transformer in the kitchen and I don't want to use it on a building site. Why list this in the UK and have it returned at your cost?

Using the toaster for around six months. It looks great on kitchen platform and does the job nicely. There is not much technology involved in toaster and hence not much to differentiate. Highly recommend.
