Works as advertised and more.
An extremely easy rod to use. Muggy weld 77 does what it is supposed to. I never thought welding cast iron could be so easy for a novice. So far I have successfully welded 2 antique engine heads and a starting air compressor block all dating from the 1920's. I haven't tried to weld on AC nor DC+, but as suggested DC- it just flows on.

Not for engine blocks!!
They are worthless for welding cast iron engine block!!!

Fixed an old cast iron housing
Rod works good but isn't cheap. You get 4 rods for $65 but fixing a cracked transmission housing was worth it. Watch some videos before attempting unless you've done this before.

Muggy 77 rods , If it sounds to good to be true, it is.
First off, let me point out, I'm a pretty experienced welder. I know my abilities as well as my limitations. If anyone could weld with this product, I can. I've welded cast iron with nickel rods before with great success. According to the Muggy website, this rod will weld cast iron to most anything with no porosity. Here's a quote from their website. "77 is a premium cast iron welding rod that produces welds which are high strength, crack resistant, and porosity free when applied to a wide variety of cast irons." This sounded like the perfect solution to my tractor hydraulic fitting issue. I had to weld a cast iron fitting to a steel JIC fitting that was very rare. First of all, these rods are expensive. I got 7 rods for $80 delivered. I was very careful to prep the materials in the lathe and V out the area for the weld and make sure it was shiny clean. The 1/8 rod is supposed to be able to weld with 60-110 amps ac or dc. The 1/8 rod will not hold an arc at 100 amps. It will only stick. I could barely weld at 115. It really needed more heat which was way above specification. The weld bead was pretty ugly just like the demo videos on youtube. That concerned me before buying but I thought perhaps I could do better. After welding, I put the fitting in the lathe to turn it down and clean the area. It was a bear to machine. I broke 4 carbide bits working with this thing. Once I got it polished out and looking good, I thought I was ok but still had to do the pressure test. Right away, I located 6 pin holes. No porosity right? Better think again. I tried grinding them out and rewelding but more and more holes opened up. While grinding out the pin holes, I started finding the weld, even though looked great after filing and polishing, had not bonded well to the other metals. So, I looked at the fitting, considered my options and decided to trash the amazing muggy 77 rods and go old school and braze it with my acetylene torch and a brass brazing rod. That fixed the problem and passed the pressure test. Hard lesson learned. Don't waste your money on products that have amazing stories and you can find no one in real life to validate if they are true. Basically everything I read about this product is simply not true. Perhaps it was wishful thinking on the owner's part but that don't get my tractor fixed. Honestly, I think I could have done better with a basic 7014 rod. Needless to say, I'm completely disappointed and won't buy anything that says Muggy on it ever again.

Fantastic product worked perfectly
Used these on a cast engine block for my boat. There were several cracks in the block from previous owner not winterizing properly. These worked a treat and I'm not even that good at welding.

Could not get it to stick or flow properly. ...
Could not get it to stick or flow properly. Turning up the amperage did not help. Metal was properly cleaned and prepared before welding.
