My Little Sister Ate One Hare

A little on the wild side!
This is a humorous counting book which I have found appeals to children 3 and up and to adults who enjoy complete silliness. The items sister eats are completely outlandish and, to be honest, delightfully gross, so might not appeal to fastidious adults. It is my favorite !!! Kevin Hawkes' illustrations are colorful and imaginative. This is a great silly romp. I read it years ago to my favorite twin boys who were not vegetable fans and now, though they are young adults, we still repeat the rule that " no-one ever dies." from eating 9 peas".

Our FAVORITE book!!
I first heard of this book in a literacy class years ago, and I knew I had to order it right away! We’ve read this soo many times my kids have it memorized. We love the creativity, the pictures, the rhyming, the silliness, and we laugh every time. We’ve loaned it out, given it as gifts, and even replaced our own. We highly recommend this book!

Wonderful book (with minor caveat)
We love, love love this book! My two year old daughter asks for this book most nights. She loves the illustrations of all the animals as well as the silly costumes that "my little sister" wears. She chants along with the final line on each page "But she didn't!" The rhyme scheme is solid and the story is a lot of fun. My only complaint is the implied insult to peas. I'm always disappointed when children's books undermine vegetables or desirable behaviors. In this particular book my husband and I just make a substitution when we are reading it aloud so that the line is "but eating yummy (instead of 'healthy') foods like these". Luckily my daughter loves peas almost as much as she enjoys this book! Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Hilarious
A little off, but the rhyming and story line is hilarious -- grand kids are a little silly - so this was a perfect book for there type of humor.

Love this book!
Not only did my preschool students love this book, I also really enjoyed it. The repetition is great for early readers. It’s also great for non-readers to develop recall/memory skills, and receptive/expressive language skills. I use it during my speech therapy sessions, and it’s been a hit. Many students have asked me to read it several times, which is rare.

The illustrations are hilarious, as is the poem!
I loved this book when I read it to my own kids years ago! I only saved a select few from my children’s childhoods and this is one of them. Now my niece and nephew have a copy to keep the laughs going.
