I have only had this tuner for a couple hours so, if I change my opinion later on, I'll update this review. But, for now, here's my initial impression. The tuner seems to be well made and it responds more quickly than a different tuner (Intelli) that I have had for years. I like that it turns green when it senses that a string is tuned correctly. That's a nice feature that helps with one of two minor issues I have with the tuner. One is that it's surprisingly small - which is O.K. But it is a little hard to read although you will mostly just be interested in seeing the digital needle line up in the center indicating that the string is in tune. Again, the screen turns green when it's in tune so that helps make up for the difficulty in reading small text on the screen. One other minor complaint I have is that it can't be rotated in the position I prefer the most, that is, on top of the headstock and pointing back to me with the screen oriented horizontally. As it is, the screen is sideways when in that position. No big deal at all but I thought I would mention it. I didn't try it, but I assume this would be the same if you mount it to the back of the headstock. My old one orients the way I like it and it has a larger screen which is easier to see but, again, that's no big deal. One thing to be aware of: When you turn it off, be sure to press and hold down the button for a couple seconds until it goes off. If you press it momentarily, it will change mode and, if you then shut it off, it will be in that mode when you turn it back on. That threw me off for a minute when all the readings were off.Oh! One other thing that is a little more serious: Sometimes I am getting crazy readings saying the strings are way off tune. This happens when it is the correct mode. I may pluck a string several times and get the same wild readings but then I pluck it again and it works fine. I'm not sure what is causing that. It seems to be a little erratic. But it's very obvious that something is wrong when it does that so, if it happens to you, just pluck the string a couple more times and it should be O.K. Maybe the tuner has to be repositioned on the headstock. I'm not sure about that. I'll probably figure out what causes that and find out how to avoid it in the future. This might only be an issue if you were trying to quickly tune your guitar during a performance. It might slow you down a few seconds, that's all.All-in-all, I'm happy with this tuner. It gives readings that are spot-on with my old Intelli tuner except when it goes crazy and, again, I'm sure I will figure out what is causing that and find out how to avoid it.

Close to Perfect, But Some Quibbles
The SpeedPro Chromatic Guitar Tuner won’t please everyone. It’s a very sensitive tuner. How could this be a bad thing? Well, it depends on what kind of player you are. Though not generally acknowledged, tuner designers must make choices in how accurate a tuner should be. If it’s extremely sensitive, beginners or casual amateurs can find it incomprehensibly skittish. Thus, many tuners on the market are made to be reasonably accurate, but not too accurate. The advantage is that they give more steady readings—something most amateurs prefer. The disadvantage, of course, is that you’re not getting the ultimate in accuracy. (With some tuners, you may find you can audibly change a note’s pitch, but the tuner doesn’t register the change.) Advanced players know that intonation is often a moving target. They’re aware that a note’s pitch may vary during its attack and decay. So they’re willing to sort through the sometimes jittery readings that a more sensitive tuner will give. If you’re this kind of player, then the SpeedPro may be right for you.On the plus side, this tuner is ruggedly built and should withstand heavy use. The customer service for MAC Music Accessories is also excellent. (I have first-hand experience with this.) But there are caveats. Like many other tuners, the SpeedPro display changes color as the note approaches correct intonation. Oddly, however, the SpeedPro display changes color when the note is still significantly off. What’s the point of a color change if it doesn’t accurately reflect when the note is perfectly in tune? One might argue that the color change lets you know when you’re getting close. Seems a wishy-washy approach, though, and it makes more sense to have the display change color only when the note is dead on.More troubling is the placement of the power switch. With the tuner clipped onto a guitar headstock in the usual way, you must uncomfortably contort your hand to reach the switch. You can overcome this by clipping the tuner on the underside of the headstock. This puts the power switch in a position that’s easy to reach. Unfortunately, it also means the display is now upside down. (It’s possible to make a tuner in which the display can be reversed, and that’s a nice option for those who prefer to mount the tuner on the bottom of the headstock.) SpeedPro should have put more thought into its placement of the power switch. Musicians, especially skilled ones, are alert to good ergonomics. When we encounter a product that displays poor ergonomics, we tend to notice. Were these caveats resolved, I would recommend the SpeedPro without reservation. As it is, it’s still my tuner of choice. Would that this tuner, so close to perfect, could go that extra bit.

Nice Little Tuner
Ordered this for tuning an electric bass, along with an acoustic guitar. The tuner seems to be slow picking up the E string on the bass, as I have to strike it a few times before it registers. However, the clamp mount that secures to the head stock of the guitar (or bass) and rotating display works perfectly. This little tuner is great for in-home tuning, and I would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting a tuner for in-home use. The overall quality appears to be very good, and the company that manufactures it even sent me an email reminding me to register the tuner for the included warranty before I even received it!!! That was impressive to me. Overall, I would have to say that this little tuner is well made and is sold at a fair price. The display is large and bright, and once the string is in tune, the LED display changes from blue to green, to confirm that the string is tuned.
