Awesome bike computer!
This is a great product. It was easy to install, fully functional, accurate, and for a great price. I even accidentally dropped it at great velocity onto the ground and it still works fine! It's much better than the cheaper, more popular Schwinn 17-Function Bike Computer , because not only does it just look way better but the sensor actually stays on the bike! This is because this sensor has a rubber bottom and small handles to hold up the plastic tighteners. I purchased the Schwinn before this one and I couldn't get the sensor to stay on for the life of me, let along expect it to stay on when the bumps of the road occurs. If you need a bike computer, this is definitely the one to get.

A Bit Finicky but Great Features
Installed this on my daughter’s toad bike. Install went easy. The one complaint is you have to push the display to clear the screen and the whole mount can spin on you if you push too hard. Tightening the hold-down more is not an option as it feels the plastic strap may break if I tighten further. It does help to hold the base with the other hand so it don't spin in place.

More info at a glance, and simpler interface than others.
I've had several of the PB Protege computers. I like the interface better than any of the others - it shows 4-5 pieces of data at the same time, which vastly reduces the number of options you have to scroll through while trying to keep your eye on the road or trail. The 5.0 only scrolls through two choices: current time and odometer on the bottom line (while displaying current speed, trip time and trip distance on the top 3 lines). Simple and idiot proof. I bought this one for my folding bike, which is my KISS just-get-on-and-pedal rig with dynamo lights, coaster brake and 2-speed automatic drivetrain. I'll be buying another of these for my kid's bike. I want my kids to have the benefit of their own computer, but don't want them to have to fuss and fiddle with all the crazy options on the Cateye Enduro computers I used to use.Be aware that this computer does NOT display average speed or maximum speed, which a lot of people like to have. For those you'll need to step up to the 8.0, which shows them on a third option to scroll through (still pretty simple, really).By the way, for my mountain bike and main commuter rig I use the 9.0 because I like the temperature display. These are great computers, although i've had a couple of them fail, one of them after a major downpour - something that NEVER happened with my CatEyes. Fortunately PB customer service is great, and they will replace your computer if it fails in normal use.

installed the Planet Bike Protege 5.0 on an Origami Gazelle folding bike
Utilized the entire 31" length of wire that came with the Planet Bike Protege 5.0. Works flawlessly on my folding bike. Tried an older VDO wireless computer and the distance from the receiver to sensor was too great. The Planet Bike Protege 5.0 with the longer wire worked fine. Every time you drop the handlebars for folding, the computer wire must be accounted for. I zipped tied the wire leading from the sensor to the computer on the fork. Most wireless computers operate within 28" or less. The extra 3 inches makes a world of difference. This computer is economical and operates fine.

If using on rear wheel, will need shims to get sensor and spoke magnet close enough!!
I bought the longer length 130mm sensor cable (sold separately) to use this PlanetBike Protege 5.0 on a road bike that sits on a trainer so only the rear wheel spins. The standard placement for these types of bike computer sensors is on the front fork with the spoke magnet placed on the front wheel. Therefore the sensor cable that comes with this Protege is too short to use on the back wheel. So thankfully they sell a replacement cable that is much longer and designed to reach the back wheel. But, although the length is fine to reach the rear wheel, the placement of the sensor on any part of the rear frame near the wheel does not get the sensor and spoke magnet close enough to each other. It needs to be between 2 and 5 millimeters for the two to “connect” which is surprisingly close. So, like others who posted in the reviews, I needed to put something between the frame and the sensor to get it close enough to the spoke magnet. As you can see in the pic I used a few strips of rubber as a shim. In fact because both the extension sensor cable and the original Protege package came with an assortment of shims to mount the computer itself to the handlebars, I had plenty of extra to use for this purpose. That’s what you see in the pic with a bit of electrical tape to clean up the extra material. My advice is to be prepared to do a simple adjustment to move the sensor closer to the spoke magnet by using some kind of shim if you are placing the sensor on the rear wheel.

Planet Bike Protege 5.0 Bike "Computer" (Speedometer)
First, the good:1. The display is wonderful. Tells you what you want clearly and with great choices.2. Mounting is the usual pain in the neck, but the instructions are adequate.3. Same for setting up the display functions.4. Quality of workmanship seems very fine and it does what you want. Now the bad:1. It failed in less than 60 days and it wasn't the battery. Amazon has a 30-day return policy, so no help there. I e-mailed Planet Bike, the mfg., but no answer yet.2. The round bracket for the display mount on the handlebars is gigantic, as though the handlebars are as big as an exhaust pipe! You have to use rubber, cardboard, duct tape, etc. to build up a thick collar on your handlebars to mount the display head. That ugly mounting collar looks awful and is not very secure.3. Instead of buttons to push, one slides the whole display forward on the mounting, depressing a button on the bottom, to make display choices. This is a pain in the neck and as clumsy as it sounds. I much prefer a couple of top-mounted buttonsWould I buy another? Maybe. I'll know if Planet Bike supports me with a replacement. If no replacement, then I reject this product and it's mfg.

Protege
I have had several of the Protege 9s that have been excellent and this Protege5 stopped working after 2 or 3 weeks, so I'd stay away from it
