Drunk In Public

EYE OPENING!
Unfortunately, I was forced to watch this film in a state-mandated alcohol education program after a DUI. I was so moved by it, I felt it necessary to buy it to show my girlfriend. Everybody who drinks should watch this movie. It definitely shows the nasty effects of a lifetime you're drinking. Very sad, very eye-opening.

ONE OF A KIND
As a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, I am always researching resources that capture the progressive nature of alcoholism and/or other drug addictions. I am grateful this was was documented over a span of years. It is presented in such a way- it is difficult to deny the self destructive, insidious power it holds over those its victims. It is difficult to understand the insanity that unfolds before your eyes, hard to watch, yet impossible to turn away. For those who doubt this is a disease, and rather view it as moral failing or character weakness, may change their view after watching this.It was delivered quickly, well packaged and I am very happy with my purchase. I look forward to viewing this with my groups and getting their feedback. Thank You!

Useful tool
I used this video as a tool for a substance abuse group I hold.. the members were amazed how this guy got to this point w no one ever helping him. Where I live you cannot go once w/o being forced to treatment for any arrest revolving around drugs or alcohol. Its a truly sad story about a man who fell through the cracks.

The Truth on Addiction
This is a great documentary for anyone to see and gain a true understanding on the disease of addiction. It depicts those who did not give up on Mark as he struggled with alcoholism and who truly wanted the best for him. The brotherhood and friendships seen in this documentary is the reason why we do not give up on a person when they have an addiction. I work in the field with helping those with their substance use disorders/mental health and know the trials and tribulations of those who fight for their lives daily battling this beast called addiction.

Thank God for thepolice, some agencies failed but not law enforcement
David, outstanding documentary. I functioned at a high level as a 20 year navy corpsman combat veteran. Retirement brought my demise with alcohol. Fortunately I haven't suffered Korsakoff, but I have liver, pancreatic, esophagus and bone marrow damage.Sadly, this year has brought 63 days of inpatient for liver failure, vomiting blood and suppressed bone marrow leading to dangerous levels of platletes. The lack of platelets could lead to massive bleeding. I hate my disease. 93 days sober today.Gratefully I have the Veteran's Hospitals. They are extremely well equipped todeal with substance abuse. MY alcoholism has progressed to monthly vivitrolshots and daily librium because of the siezures. They have a whole substanceabuse department with numerous rehab facilities, social worker and out reachprograms.. The also have a PTSD clinicI plan to buy second copy and send it to my inpatient doctor and use my current copy at the homeless shelter I work at. I was particularly moved by the compassion the police showed him. Sadly I find tough love the most divisive impediment to recovery. You should be proud of the film you made.THis film may have saved my life. I never realized that thiamine deficiencies leads to korsakoff. This movie needs to be seen in rehab's, high schools an living rooms.

Drunk In Public
I first saw an older version of this DVD when I was going to school to become a Substance Abuse Counselor. As a person in recovery, I immediately identified with Mark David Allen's lack of insight, his denial, and his dishonesty with himself and with others. I ordered a newer version of the film for myself and showed it a couple of times at the treatment center I worked at and got a very strong response. While it is true that many of the people have not progressed quite as far as Mark had, when they see the progression of 17+ years of addiction wrapped up in 80 minutes they can identify with being on a path that only gets worse and worse over time. I think Mark also shows during his brief recovery that there is the possibility of hope for anyone as long as they remain honest, open, and willing and "do the work" no matter how far down the scale they have gone. I plan to order the current version to continue to show people that addiction really only has two options: recovery or death, and maybe you spend some time institutionalized on your way.

Been showing this for 6 years!
I have been showing this film continuously to the DUI program groups I have facilitated, since the first edition of it was published in 2006! All additional editions have been improvements on the first, and the "paradox" of this final edition is how someone with the level of alcohol dependance, demonstrated by Mark David Allen, could DIE SOBER! That point in this film probably is more impactful then MDA remaining alive at the end of the prior 3 editions of this film! The final edition of this film proves overwhelmingly that: 1.) addiction to a drug IS and REMAINS a CHOICE, 2.) that a person with any drug addiction IS MORE POWERFUL then any entity or person trying to "help" the individual stop, and 3.) that a person CAN QUIT, AND STAY QUIT, without becoming a "12 Step groupie". However, regardless of how the quitting a drug addiction is achieved, this film also does hammer home, that there comes a point by which the medical damage done to a person as a result of an addiction, can result in an untimely death, regardless of quitting a drug addiction. Seen in that context, it is safe to say, that MDA did NOT "get what he wanted", as much as he "got what HE GAVE TO HIMSELF"! For filming this message, I continue to assert that David Sperling deserves a "Best Documentary" Oscar nomination for all 4 editions of this film. It will continue to be shown and "evangelized" by me, for as long as I have a knowledge of it. May it stay in "production" for a LONG, LONG time!

Honest about addiction
Great film about the progression of the disease of addiction. I especially love how it follows one person on their journey in a way that is so honest and simple. Addiction kills and ruins lives. This doesn’t gloss over the addiction and it doesn’t chastise the addict.
