ZEN Thermostat - Black

Very happy with this purchase. Install was easy, and I love that it's held on magnetically. No plastic clips, live hinges or anything to break. It was the only 'smart' thermostat I could integrate with smartthings that didn't require a C wire or "creative" wiring of my boiler to make work. I have a simple 2 wire, heat only system for a Navien on-demand combi-boiler, and it doesn't provide power for other smart thermostats. It will supposedly run on battery up to 2 years, when the only other unit I could use (2gig CT100) would only last a couple months. This was about double the price, but worth it for the lack of hassle with batteries.I already had SmartThings, so this worked perfect for me. This is ZigBee based, so you will need a compatible ZigBee hub to be able to set this up as a smart thermostat, unlike Nest or some of the HoneyWell offerings that use Wi-Fi and don't require a third party system, but do require power.The display interface looks pretty, but is not completely intuitive. Also, there is no way to configure this as a programmable thermostat without a compatible home automation hub, which is a downside. This is definitely a niche product. I'm detracting a star for this though, setting up a basic 5+2 day schedule shouldn't require more equipment and home automation know-how.Overall, a great product for the small market of people that do want a 'smart' thermostat, have a compatible home automation system, and need something that will run on battery instead of power stealing/c wire.

I won't rewrite what others have already said. I wanted a simple device to connect to the SmartThings v2 hub and automate all of the temperature scheduling through ST. It was easy to install, I followed the instructions on the zen website to set it up step by step. All in it took 10 minutes to disconnect the old thermostat and have this one up and running and another 5 minutes to add to ST.It is very simple and good looking. The LEDs are plenty bright enough in the daylight and my 6 yearold can use it just fine. I am using routines to control the temperature schedule on "good night" and "good morning" and if that isn't enough there are enough SmartApps to fill in the gaps using one of the many temperature sensors around the house.I would like if I could control the temperature through Alexa. There may be a way but I haven't figured it out yet. If anyone knows, feel free to reply.

This is a great thermostat!After testing multiple thermostats with my SmartThings hub, this is definitely my favorite!The Zen came with clear and simple instructions, which made the installation extremely easy. It paired with my hub flawlessly, and had it fully programmed within a matter of minutes. I live on the coast, where most homes don't have air conditioning, which was an issue for other smart thermostats. This was not an issue with Zen, as it is powered by batteries!The appearance of the Zen is great! I purchased the black version, which went best with our home décor. The low profile and rounded corners, are much more appealing than the Nest, and others I've tried. The digital display is very easy to see in the day, and night, but even better is how the display fades away after a few moments. Very slick!This is a great product, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone!

Really an amazing product. Syncs perfectly with SmartThings and through SmartThings its controllable with Amazon Echo. Its always fun seeing people's reactions when I tell them to just "tell Alexa its too cold" .Pros:- No common wire needed - very important for apartments.- Not ugly, in fact it blends in quite well on my art wall.- Connects with SmartThings for automation- Does not require I own a Mac/iPhoneCons:- Does not connect directly to Amazon Echo, have to use an interface from a hub

I expected this thing to be more interactive but it is superbly minimal almost too much. I really want to play with it but it's less fun than playing with a ruler. It turns my heater, fan, and A/C on.I did have trouble connecting to my Smartthings hub. Apparrently the buttons on the rear and instructions above them are meant to be the amount of times you press them and not the duration of the press. I pressed the network button five times and it connected to my Smartthings hub.I recently bought a house built in the 1980's with armpit colored walls. This thermostat is in that house and it looks hideous on the wall. I think it's the 80's clashing with this ultra modern piece of kit. Good thing I'm already remodelling my house.

I could not get it to work. Thirteen emails to customer service. Actually bought a second Zen because I thought the first one was just a lemon. Now I have two Zens. Bought an ecobee3 lite and it worked instantly.

Sleek and beautiful. This thermostat was easy to install using the online install guide and it is easy to operate. Best of all, this integrates well with our Smartthings hub which is super convenient.

Using with Smartthings and it works like a charm.
