Soul Brothers ....Whether White, Black, Green, or Purple
There have been few blues singers who have demonstrated the extreme range of emotions and vocal gyrations that Junior Wells projects when he sings. His vocals beg, plead, demand, challenge, cry, ache, scream, speak, whisper, and wail and that's just the first song (:-O).This album was recorded in 1969 and 1970 with an all-star lineup; The subtle, but effective Fred Below on drums, Junior Wells on harmonica and vocals, Buddy Guy on guitar and vocals, and the great, incomparable Otis Spann on piano. There may be better Junior Wells albums such as "C'mon in the House, "Better off with the Blues", and "Hoodoo Blues".There may be better Junior Wells and Buddy Guy albums such as the phenomenal "Alone and Acoustic" and "Live at Montreux".This album stands tall against any of the above. The game changer for "Southside Blues Jam" was the inclusion of the great Otis Spann on piano. His solo play and his interplay with Buddy Guy's guitar and Junior's blues harp was phenomenal. Otis Spann is arguably the best Chicago blues pianist ever and this album goes a long way in validating that argument. Two songs that the reviewer believes demonstrate the tremendous chemistry between Spann, Wells, and Guy are "Baby, Please Send Me Your Love" and Buddy Guy's "Trouble Don't Last Always", both are five star songs in my opinion due to the incredible piano work of Spann and interplay with Junior's voice and harp and Buddy's lead guitar. Two thumbs up on this album.

Great Artist
This is true blues folks. One of the best Junior Wells CD's out there in my opinion. He seems to be the inspiration behind Buddy Guy. I saw Buddy playing the guitar in the back on YouTube.

A gem
Great "jam" session from 1969. Southside Chicago blues from Junior Wells, with a soulful voice, with a little touch of West side guitar from Buddy Guy, and superb piano playing from Otis Spann. If you like the blues, especially Southside blues, this CD is a gem. Top numbers, to my ears; "I could have religion" and "It's too late brother". Excellent recording.
