Mom and Dad Save the World (DVD)

This is a fantastic time capsule of some of the 80’s most beloved actors in a delightfully ridiculous and campy... honestly I can’t think of a better word than... romp. Full of fantastic color, wonderfully designed sets, perfect costumes and absurd science fiction.A young John Lovitz, Terri Garr, the beloved Jeffrey Jones (Rest in Peace), and Eric Idle lead a fantastic supporting cast. Especially Thalmus Rasulala (New Jack City, Roots) as the ineffable General Afir, who would sadly pass just before this movie was released. Lots of Monty Python and SNL influence make this Mystery Science Theater 3000 worthy watch. Love it!

Really cheesey production values and "Airplane""-style humor make this an underappreciated classic. It's silly and bizarre, but remarkably sweet tempered and upbeat. Garr and Jones sell their Mom and Dad roles and don't sink the effort by trying to be ironic or campy. Everyone took this seriously enough to get it up and keep it up in the air.

I remember watching this when I was younger and absolutely loving it! It was so cheesy and campy with an incredibly dumb story line, but you can't help but watch the cheese unfold. I will say, the costumes, as crazy and unrealistic as they were, were pretty great. I can't give this less than 5 stars for nostalgic cult classic reasons. Watching it as an adult, I just shake my head and wonder "What were they thinking?". This is a classic 90's style film that makes absolutely no sense. It's very much like the style of the live action Super Mario Bros. film...take that for what it is. If you're planning on buying this for the stellar performances, compelling story line, and breathtaking special effects, skip it. If you're a fan of camp and nostalgia, go for it.

They really do not make great comedies like this anymore. I remembered having enjoyed it as a kid, but there was so much of it that I hadn’t really understood when I was little. Absolutely loves sitting down and watching this with my mom recently. Fantastic.

Hilarious film with great performances and role by Teri Garr, Jeffrey Jones, Jon Lovitz, Kathy Ireland, and Eric Idle. What a great science fiction blending it with comedy is just good. Not a personal favorite but it has great storyline. I love Teri Garr a gorgeous and talented actress. I recommend it if you'll love science fiction/comedy film.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet. This is a bad movie. A really bad movie. It is absolutely, unequivocally bad. That being said, it is entertainingly bad, like Troll 2 or The Room. If you like so bad, it's good movies or you're like me and saw this multiple times on Comedy Central in the 90s, then buy this movie!

Have always enjoyed this movie but had it on VHS so when I got rid of them I had to get it again. Once again could not stop laughing.

This was supposed to be John Lovitz's breakout film and why it wasn't is anybody's guess. What you have here is a hilarious screwball comedy adaptation of Flash Gordon where suburban Mom and Dad are kidnapped and hauled to the alien planet...in their station wagon (a primitive form of SUV). Teri Garr and Jeff Jones as the "folks" give their usual great performances (really, neither has ever done anything less than a first rate job in any movie) and Lovitz is sensational as Emperor Todd. Plenty of good additional cast members and highly imaginative costumes and sets add to the entertainment.The level of comedy is great. A favorite moment in this film (and a favorite film moment altogether) is when the family station wagon--zipping through space pulled by a magnetic beam--passes the planet Saturn and "mom" takes a Kodak photo of it using the flash. That's a joke that's subtler than it looks and this sort of slapstick/thoughtful (and plenty of satire) runs through the whole movie. It's dopey but it's smart dopey.They've resurrected the brilliant, stunning, wondrous, amazing "Freaked!" from this era (Oh, don't we long for those good old days--late Eighties to late Nineties!) and the DVD of that should go right to the top of any comedy lover's want list. It's time to get this fun film back in circulation because we sure as heck need good laughs these days!

When I received the dvd this morning I checked the dvd, there was no subtitles for the hard of hearing, when I checked in the website it was shown that it had English subtitles very disappointed.

I loved this movie the first time I saw it. I know it's not deep or intellectual but it is fun and that's why I like it. As usual, Amazon came through with a great selection of movies! When I saw it was available I grabbed it up right away. I've already watched the movie once so far and it is in great shape with no skipping or stopping. The packaging was in good shape and the DVD doesn't appear to have any visible scratches. Thanks Amazon!

Saw this and wasn't sure WHAT to expect - but this is a cool movie. Very funny. I think that Eric Idle was wasted, but overall was a cool movie. ESPECIALLY loved Jon Lovitz in this. Kick back, put your brain on hold and just enjoy the movie. This needs to be on DVD (and in widescreen!) in the US.

I love this movie. It's so cheesy that it's good. I used to watch this as a kid, so I thought I'd give it a shot for some nostalgia. I really wasn't expecting it to have aged that well, but I was actually surprised. Some cheeses ripen quite well with age! It's just a fun whimsical weekend-movie for those young at heart. Great costumes, props and some laugh out loud moments. Another reviewer put it best with: "Turn off your brain and just enjoy!"
