Good but could be much better
This 2 cd set is called THE OSMONDS ULTIMATE COLLECTION and includes hits by the Osmond Brothers, Donny and Marie, Donny, Marie and Jimmy. The problem with this collection is that it is not fully representative of all the Osmonds and therefore not an ultimate collection for a true diehard Osmond fan.The first cd is an excellent set of all the hits by The Osmond Brothers. There are 21 tracks and their true versatility is shown from their ballads like LET ME IN, uptempo pop DOWN BY THE LAZY RIVER, rock with ONE WAY TICKET TO ANYWHERE and their very early work like ONE BAD APPLE. Excellent collection of songs.Disc two is the problem. There are 16 tracks with 9 designated to solo Donny, 4 to Donny and Marie, 2 to Jimmy and only 1 to solo Marie. I am a true Marie fan and I mean no disrespect but they giver more tracks to Jimmy than Marie here. The Donny tracks follow his early hits when he was with the Brothers still and his hits as an adult. Where is Marie's THIS IS THE WAY THAT I FEEL and she also had a very succesful country solo career after Donny and Marie. Why was she not represented the same as Donny. Also, Donny and marie were hugely succesful. The second Osmond success in popularity after the Brothers. Only 4 tracks. The first cd has 65 minutes of music dedicated to just the Osmond brothers. Disc 2 is only 47 minutes with the songs split as shown above. Granted there is video footage that takes up more of disc two but this should have been on an extra bonus third disc and disc 2 should have used the remaining 31 minutes to do justice to Marie and Donny and Marie.I do really enjoy the collection but it is certainly not ULTIMATE. I am very glad they have issued all the Donny and Marie albums on cd. I am waiting for a true collection of Marie's full career though. Her fan base is certainly there.

Excellent Music
This 2 CD set, and especially the one featuring the brothers, contains some really surprising music. I did not remember, or was not exposed to, the wide range of music the Osmond Brothers were making. While Donny & Marie went bubblegum pop, the Brothers experimented with sounds similar to the Beach Boys, Beatles, and even some hard rock bands. It really appears that by supporting the Donny & Marie show, as the Brothers did, they sacrificed their own careers. And that's sad, as this music is very good. There are 3-4 "pop-ish" songs on the first CD, but other than those, this one rocks. The Donny & Marie CD is exactly what you already know. Puppy Love, Go Away Little Girl, Paper Roses, A Little Bit Country, and on and on. No real surprises, but all known songs.Overall, definitely worth the money for even a casual Osmond fan.

GRRRRRRR!!!! Why Can't They get it right- TWO whole CD's & they STILL can't get all the Osmond's hits on it-REALLY?
Nothing makes me madder that as a music collector to try to find those hard to find charting singles, Think you have it & find out it's Re-Recorded or a LIVE Version. Case in point, Lil' Jimmy Osmond had a whopping 2 charting hits ("Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" #38 & "Tweedle Dee" #59) Long Haired... is a LIVE VERSION AND IT NOT LISTED THAT WAY ON CD. Universal owns the whole MGM/Polydor catalogue, so why o why couldn't they get this right? First Disc has ALL The Osmonds Charting Billboard Hits, so that was great start. But they added a live cut and a remix of Crazy Horses. On Disc Two besides the screw up on Jimmy, On Donny They have 9 of his 18 Charting Hits. What's MISSING: 1) Sweet & Innocent 2) Go Away Little Girl 3) Hey Girl 4) I Knew You When (Flip) 5) Lonely Boy 6) A Million To One 7) Are You Lonesome Tonight 8) I Have A Dream 9) C'Mon Marianne 10) Sacred Emotion. With Marie's Solo They Only include "Paper Roses", MISSING Chart Hits 1) Who's Sorry Now & 2) This Is The Way That I Feel. Finally on the Donny & Marie Duets: MISSING:1) Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing, 2) (You're My) Soul & Inspiration & 3) On The Shelf. The 2nd Cd only runs 63:05 and that includes almost 13 minutes of Video Footage (It's an Enhanced CD) So there is NO REASON they couldn't of included all the hits here, other than to force you to buy 2 or 3 more CD's to get these hits. So you get most of the big hits, Just far from being the ULTIMATE COLLECTION they claim. So BEWARE!

Here are most of the songs I love by the Osmond clan and some that are new to me. A lot of these ended up in my iPod (yes, I prefer it to my phone).

Paper Roses
Like many probably, I was too embarrassed to buy an Osmonds/Donny Osmond album back in the day due to their boy-band image - but am now old enough to longer care. Some of this is great music, no question - and the fact that this double CD explores the entire output of the Osmond family - Donny, Marie, Little Jimmy and The Osmonds band as well - makes this sound much better than would a Donny & Marie CD, as their music tends to sound sugary, delicious as sugar sometimes is!My personal view is that it is the Donny & Marie songs - both individually and as a duo - which lift this compilation into greatness due to their distinctive, sweet, clear, emotional voices and harmonies. However, the out-and-out rocking of The Osmonds successfully manages to temper the sweetness of Donny and Marie. My favourites here are The Twelfth of Never, Puppy Love, Deep Purple Dream, Love Me For A Reason, Let Me In, and of course, the country-styled Paper Roses ...like roses made of paper, there isn't any sweetness in your heart. Crazy Horses is probably the best of the rock songs, and here we get the original and an interesting remix of that song.Modern boybands from Take That onwards tend to be targetted with being manufactured and heartless, but despite all the hype they went through, there is an honesty and love for music and songs here in The Osmonds.

Blast from my teen years
Arrived earlier than expected which was nice but one niggle. It says on the box that there are three 'enhanced cd' bits of excerpts from Top of the Pops but I cannot seem to access them. Both outer and inner box say this but no way could I find them. Apart from that it was a real blast from the past.
