I had this on vinyl awhile back. This is an excellent compilation of Burrito Brothers.

Classic album - great service

As of the time I'm writing this, Close Up the Honky Tonks is 43 years old. After all that time, it remains a) essential because it still contains songs that aren't available anywhere else, and b) arguably still the best Burritos compilation ever released. It contains everything you need to know about the 1st and 2nd albums, then a side of Gram Parsons-era outtakes, and a side of Rick Roberts-era outtakes. Sadly, there's nothing from the self-titled 3rd album on this compilation, but the Rick Roberts-era outtakes make up for that. If you have more than a passing interest in the Flying Burrito Brothers and haven't heard this compilation, you're doing yourself (and your music collection) a huge disservice.

I was 17 years of age listening to the usual stuff from that era that I and friends would normally listen to - The Sabs , Purple , Yes etc .Then after reading about Gram in the New Musical Express (never NME to me) , took a chance on this LP which had just been released ,bought from Woolworths in Prescot loved it and it started a love of Gram and that voice......highly recommended x

First compilation of this band that appeared way back on vinyl in 1974. The first two Flying Burrito albums are represented by 12 tracks. There are also 11 as then, (1974), unreleased tracks on the album, think there is still one track on here that hasn't been released on any other compilation. These unreleased tracks are a mix of Gram Parson era and later. All in all a good compilation. It has good booklet notes.

This one was released (1974) as a 2-LP-set. Record one contained tracks from the two first FBB albums. The second record did contain, at that time, unreleased tracks (some live recordings too). Country rock at it’s best. Informative booklet is enclosed too. I recommend this one!

Incluye folleto de 20 páginas con comentarios de cada una de las 23 canciones, historia del grupo y reseña de cada uno de sus miembros (entre otras informaciones). Pero lo más importante es el contenido musical: extraordinario.

Nice overview of the four Burrito line-ups. Eleven tracks from the Gram Parsons led incarnations, released on the debut and sophomore albums.A non-album track issued as a 45 rpm single. Five Parsons tracks that were not included on the first two lp's and six unreleased songs from the Rick Roberts era.
