Never knew I needed one if these
I wish I had known about these things sooner. I've been in and around everything automotive my entire life and own more tools than any one person should. My son had been hauling a 30 plus foot trailer and had a tire/wheel/hub come apart about 600 miles from home. He managed to find a trailer parts store and borrow something similar from their repair shop. He sent me a pic of it and I had to find one. Since I bought this set I've saved 3 other axles and a cv shaft from having to be replaced by being able to fix the threads from back to front. A normal die goes front to back and makes a mess if it can't get started straight. These can use the threads in the back and guide the blade to fix the outer ones. It would be hard I believe to do small bolts with this but it is well worth the money for larger diameter threads.

Cleaned up threads
Worked to clean the threads up but kind of expensive and being a "one-size for all" means it has some limitations.

Works well for the right application
The only drawback that I saw was that you need a fairly good amount of thread in order for the lead blade to guide the secondary which is the one actually correcting the threads

Great product
Did exactly what I needed it to do. Repaired the thread on my CNC spindle which was badly flattened. Now my collets fit on perfectly.

Not for the impossible jobs
When I say impossible, I mean, the threads were sand blasted, powder coated, then clear coated, several times over. I was hoping this would be enough to do the job, but it pretty much only scraped off some of the clear coat. The only solution I had at that point was to (and this is for super basic novice do it yourselfers like me), get yourself some calipers and a thread measuring tool. Make sure both are either standard or metric, just in case you don't know what you have. You can learn all about thread & caliper measurement on YouTube. Once you have the #'s, buy the matching die (external... taps are internal), and rethread the impossible that way.

Best thread repair set I’ve used
I’ve had this set for about 9 months. This is better than a thread file for external threads, I’ve used both on fine and course threads standard and metric. Best investment I’ve ever made just wish I had the internal set too.

Pricey But Well Worth It !
Very, VERY happy with this product. Check the videos from the manufacturer ahead of time -- they are a little lame, but helpful in making your decision. True—there are cheaper thread chasers out there. But this is not a cheap knock-off. It is well machined, and you get what you pay for. For example:1) the tightening knobs are properly knurled2) the metal is heavy, and the product feels solid3) the paint is good quality4) the roll pins (that hold the blades in) aren't cheap5) the case is durable6) the blade quality (HRC58) appears terrific (and they supply spare blades*)The product was backordered on Amazon but came through when promised. Great quality tool, but pricey. * Note that it comes with replacement blades for both the NES 1A (the smaller) and NES 2 (the larger) tools in the kit. This wasn't mentioned in the description and I originally thought the other objects in the low resolution Amazon pic were thread files (which other manufacturers sometimes include). I almost ordered extra blades, so am glad I didn't. I just couldn't see what the extra parts on the left hand side of the kit were and assumed they were thread files. The NES videos didn't make this obvious either. It makes the price easier to swallow if you know that it includes these extra blades. The replacement blades for the NES 1A are $20 and the NES 2 are $30 ($US). In the USA you can even buy these from Home Depot; in Canada you have you look harder.Keep the product oiled (or WD-40'd) when in storage and note that they mean it when they say NOT to use tools to tighten it. Just hand-tighten.I did some trials by pounding on various sizes of Grade 5 All-thread as well as Grade 8 bolts with hammers until they were a mess and, more importantly, couldn't thread a bolt. The NES kits restored all of them. I understand the external tool blades from NES are Rockwell C58 and I think a Grade 8 bolt is about Rockwell C33-C39. In other words...the NES tools can handle these common grades easily. Note that any thread chaser starts to fail as you get to the end of the thread, so perfection is always subjective.I don't think I need the internal thread tool, but if I do I will look at the NES based on the quality of the external tool kit.

Best tool ever
Best tool ever, will save you many tears and lots of time.Crazy how universal it is. Any thread pitch on anything you can get into tool.Standard, tapered hydraulic whatever.Every mechanic should have and know how to use. It's best described as, an open die that you can place on existing threads and then cut through the bad, instead of trying to cut through bad to try and catch good. That will make sense to those who have dealt with threads that are needing touching up re-created at ends!
