The Secret Garden [DVD]

From the makers of Harry Potter and Paddington, The Secret Garden features shots of England’s famous public gardens as “ The Secret Garden”, which is a “character” in the book and film. Mary is given back her children hood, healed from the sadness of her parents deaths in 1947 India. Her cousinCollin heals; it is where he walks again. Dog Hector, played by dog Fonzie, not in book…if I remember correctly….is healed, too. The book is a children’s classic, but childhood dramatic injury to the soul and a rescuing ghost or two, plus magic garden, remains timeless. Not faithful to the book, that I recall, but well acted, done well for the screen. Collin Firth plays a very sad father and uncle…garden’s magic awaits.

I was delighted with this DVD and the unique vision for this film's style & story. It is explained in the Bonus Section of the concept and filming of the Garden, too! The Children are delightful, as well as the animal co-stars...I really liked the 'back story' of both Mothers, too...that wasn't portrayed in other versions, but really enriched the story dramatically. Definitely won't be disappointed at all by adding this movie to your collection.

I'm not really into children movies but the preview caught my eye. I saw this when it came out in the theater. It's nice that it is finally on blu-ray.

This version of The Secret Garden is good, but not as good as the 1993 version, which really feels magical, and which has characters that are easier to empathize with.

This is excellent. After watching it I dug the book out & read it again. This adaptation has caught the spirit of the book. I highly recommend. It earned a place on my favorites shelf.
